The NYPD union just endorsed Trump, because they decided that the citizens of New York didn't hate them enough.

Once again, police are shockingly terrible at PR.

So in Massachusetts, if we don't have the dropbox we can return our ballots to our city or town halls. I just filled out my Democratic primary today and am going to return Monday in person, given that mail sorting machines were taken out in the states' two biggest hubs.
Oh, and any of you who know me know that I'm more center-left than left. But Trump's recent fuckery with the votes (on top of everything else before that) - I researched and voted for the hardest left candidates I could find with a shot.
Figure it'll all meet in the middle at the national stage.

Washington would be better off if it weren't so damn polarized, but I think there should be some real left wing people there, and if they aren't going to come from my district they aren't going to come from anywhere.

Let's just hope the polls that matter reflect this in November. Outside of killing Covid, the most important thing right now is getting the man who managed to make it worse out of office.

At least their vote matters. My state's going to go red no matter what I vote.

Don't even think such a thing. Don't lump me in with all the bloody rednecks. Texas will probably go to Trump, but margin between Republicans and Democrats in Texas shrinks every year. The day is coming that Texas becomes a swing state.

It doesn't have to be one or the other. States that have a unit rule/'winner take all' electoral vote system (which is almost all of them) can dilute a vote as much as any national popular vote system. Imagine being a Democrat in Kansas or a Republican in California. Why even vote? Naturally the response is 'well let's just chuck the electoral college' which is all but impossible but instead of making your vote even more meaningless with a national popular vote (which is exactly what it would do) you should consider the third option. What Nebraska and Maine do is award their electoral votes to the popular vote winner in each Congressional district which actually, ya know, makes your vote that much more powerful. Of course some people would hate that idea because suddenly the 55 electoral votes in California and the 38 votes in Texas wouldn't be automatically given to the parties that currently lay claim to them and many would be up for grabs and, well we just couldn't have that could we?

Then you're even more exposed to the political whims of gerrymandering and the ratfucking will rise to even greater levels in that regard. No thank you. And a single vote wouldn't be any more "meaningless" in a national popular vote system than it would anywhere.

You could theoretically become president with 23% of the popular vote.

And a single vote wouldn't be any more "meaningless" in a national popular vote system than it would anywhere. And what Maine did was tighten their abilities to redistrict requiring supermajority approval from both their state House and Senate. States can attempt to solve gerrymandering as it's its own separate issue but that shouldn't stop people from observing better methods in voting outside of abolishing the electoral college which will never, ever happen.

It stops being its own separate issue when you marry distracting to the national electoral college. It's stupid enough that we tie the vote for presidency to the arbitrary way we've chosen to divide the states up over the centuries we don't need to then further complicate things by adding hundreds of other arbitrary borders each one drawn based on the crass opportunism of each state's politics. If I had to choose between that and the regular electoral college I'll take that.
