62. Ralph Breaks the Internet (Disney)Certainly not a film I'm super inclined to defend, but as a sequel I do think it expands on its predecessor in terms of world building and character development.

61. Howl's Moving Castle (Ghibli)It pains me to rank a Miyazaki movie so low, but I've tried with Howl's Moving Castle twice and it just doesn't do it for me. There's some amazing visuals and Joe Hisaishi's music is as beautiful as ever, but the story is just a mess. The rules of this fantasy world seems made up as it goes along and while there are some prominent anti-war themes, they aren't integrated as poetically as in Miyazaki's better works.

That was the movie I was assigned in the very first round of the Film Club back in '06. Gave it a 2.5.

Whisper of the Heart (Ghibli)This film famously introduced the character of The Baron, a bipedal talking cat who'd become something of an icon in Japan and is indeed the best part of the movie. But the bulk of Whisper of the Heart is a somewhat stock Ghibli story of a teen girl undergoing some fairly uneventful drama. It's fine for what it is, but it's probably Ghibli's most forgettable outing.

59. Brother Bear (Disney)This movie is easy to make fun of, but it's surprisingly decent. Had it come out in an era where Disney wasn't getting lapped by Pixar and even Dreamworks it'd probably be remembered more fondly.

58. Frozen II (Disney)This will likely drop further down the list with time. I enjoyed the movie while watching it but the more time passes the more the film's negative aspects stand out and its positives are harder to recall. The best moments of the film try to hearken to a more epic and thoughtful fantasy movie but this is repeatedly brought down by Disney bullshit, rather that be lame humour or an inability to really pull the trigger on its critique of colonialism and national identity. Granted, I don't expect that from Disney, but for them to tease such a story and then sidestep taking it all the way is a shame. But I do love that ice animation and while none of the songs are as instantly iconic as "Let It Go" that isn't entirely a bad thing.

57. Brave (Pixar)I really wish Pixar's take on the princess movie was more interesting, but the mother/daughter stuff works well enough and aspects of the animation look damn good.

Yeah, Frozen II was pretty disappointing. So was Brave.

Now that my life is semi back to normal... 56. Incredibles II (Pixar)Some very cool action scenes (love the bike scene) but mostly middling and unimaginative despite generally being a decent watch.

Yeah the sequel was alright, but pretty forgettable. I did like the jack jack stuff.

55. Finding Dory (Pixar)I actually think this movie's a bit better than it gets credit for, but it's also yet another of Pixar's "just fine" sequels that dulled a lot of the excitement they'd generated in the late 2000s.

The sharp increase in fish doing things outside the water got to be a bit too much for me.

The series is kind of lousy at respecting the differences between saltwater and fresh water fish.

54. Ponyo (Ghibli)A more childish Miyazaki in a way that isn't really for me, but there's definitely a charm and quirkiness to Ponyo that's unique.

53. Hercules (Disney)Hercules is a hard movie to rank in a list like this. It's definitely sloppier than some of the prior entries but it also has some fun elements (James Woods performance as Hades, the animation style) that stand out in memory and when compared to movies that might be internally stronger but are ultimately less memorable.
