"It's explosive!" There, now that my soundbite for Universal to use on the blu-ray cover is out of the way... this was explosive. Nolan injects this movie with a lot of energy through the editing and structure of the story, in a way that is reminiscent of The Social Network, as it bounces between a couple of trials and linearly through his life as a physicist. The structure works well, resulting in parallel storylines both leading to their own climax.
Most of the movie is a lot of scientists, politician, and military people talking. So how does Nolan make this interesting? With a two-pronged approach: strong dialogue and absolutely stacking the cast with interesting and top notch actors.
And even though there is talent in pretty much every role out of dozens of roles, Cillian Murphy completely takes charge at the center. He is so self-assured as Oppie he has no problem carrying this massive film on his shoulders.
The movie looks great and sounds great. The bomb test is exciting and spectacular. The returning audio motifs, like the crowd foot-stomping, works very well also. Nolan also throws some metaphorical visual flourishes that add quite a bit to the drama.
I will also say I love the Einstein tease used in the movie, and how well it ends up paying off.

A few times in this age of IP-based movie making the casting has been pretty much perfect. Margot Robbie as Barbie is one of those times.
They did a pretty solid job of this. The production design is incredible. Ryan Gosling as Ken is an insane amount of fun. There's a good balance of winking at the camera with genuine affection for the product. There's a really great scene with her sitting on a bench taking in the real world. And the dance off (beach off?) is pretty humourous.
My main issues are that Will Ferrell and the board are overused and that it gets far too talky at the end. There were some monologues that could have used some trimming and maybe would have thus felt more genuine.
