This thread is built on lies. I was told it was a rewatch thread. Did you see it twice? Please don't make me...

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 2023
- What I most appreciate about this movie is the message that all life has value. Its a strong theme throughout the film, and is the core of its emotion. It makes the movie stand out in comparison to many other blockbuster adventures, especially many of its fellow MCU neighbours.
- The High Evolutionary is one of the best villains in the MCU. He is unhinged and menacing in both look and behaviour, and very well-performed. He has clear motivation, yet its despicable motivation. He's not one of these sympathetic villains that studios are getting a little carried away with lately.
- James Gunn is still good at music selections, but I don't feel like this movie comes close to matching the other two for needledrops.
- Will Poulter is great as Adam Warlock.
- Groot II looks kinda weird grown up. He looks like a gym bro.
- I like how the Gamora thing was handled. Its weird that if someone just wants to watch the trilogy, that whole storyline will be completely missing.
- Destroying the entire counterearth planet may have been too extreme?
- I think the core group is really good here, Pratt and Bautista especially. Lots of great quips while also feeling emotionally real.
- I like that they didn't kill off any of the characters, even though this was clearly the last one. They played with expectations for sure with some teases, but I like that the characters are all just off to do their own thing but get to close their arcs. Its a good conclusion too one of Marvel's best series.

I liked Guardians 3, but...I think it was maybe trying too hard a lot of the time. I'm definitely not as high on it as other people. And certainly not as enthusiastic about it as I am Vol. 2.

I've heard good things but considering how much I've missed in the MCU the past few years I hesitate circling back for just one feature.

I like how the Gamora thing was handled. Its weird that if someone just wants to watch the trilogy, that whole storyline will be completely missing. Infinity War is a Guardians movie. Endgame is an Avengers movie. I don’t think of Guardians as a trilogy. If you’re a fan, you have to include Infinity War/Endgame into the mix. Really, Iron Man and Spider-Man are the only MCU characters that got a proper trilogy. Those movies are mostly self-contained. Thor makes no sense if you haven’t seen the other movies. Captain America leaves unresolved plot lines at the end of Civil War. Ant-Man has a complete tonal shift in the third one.

The Marvels 2023
*note to frankyt so he doesn't yell at me again: this was a first time watch
- This movie is certainly going for a lighter, almost comedic tone here. Its more about having fun with these three characters, but it can also feel sleight.
- I really liked the character of Kamala in her TV show, but I found that the way they wrote her here was definitely more on the irritating side. I do still like the actress though.
- Congratulations to the MCU, who have a new winner for their lamest villain ever. She was not menacing in the least.
- The "conflict" between Carol and Monica was very forced and ham-fisted.
- The singing planet... alright then. And it had my least favourite thing in the MCU: magical clothing.
- This was a pretty loose script, with lots of story aspects that didn't make sense. Why did Kamala still use her powers without her bracelet? Why was she able to use them both when the other wasn't? Why sis Monica have to be on the other side of the rift to fix it? So there's suddenly a bunch of eggs on the space station for reasons that don't tie into anything else happening in the movie whatsoever?
- The switching places was cooler in theory than in execution, but at least it did add some flare to the action scenes.
- I liked the parody of the Nick Fury Avengers teaser from Iron Man. The other teaser though... that feels like its going a bit far. But I suppose they already went there in Dr. Strange 2, didn't they?
