I still haven't seen the movie but practically the entire thing, and I mean the ENTIRE thing, has been spoiled for me.

I know it's not, but it looks photoshopped.

Not really news. All this criteria leaked a while ago because it's been in the contracts for licensing the character elsewhere.

Finally got around to seeing this. It was probably (ie definitely) overhyped but I don't think it skewed my opinions all that much. It's fun, definite fan service overload but it's still a solid Marvel film. I would probably say the MCU Spider-Man trilogy is the best trilogy among the those in the canon as I don't think there's an obvious weak link unlike, well all the others. I guess my main beefs are that the villains are all mashed in but most aren't given much to do even though they all look like they're having a great time being back on screen, and the entire movie's foundation is based on Peter Parker being a huge fucking idiot the whole time. Like every decision he makes is obviously, clearly the wrong one and makes things a thousand times worse. It's not unusual for a movie to hinge off a poor decision or event and have things go from there like Tony Stark creating Ultron, oops, but Peter just does it repeatedly so that he just comes off as incompetent the entire time which feels out of character even for a teenager. Even at the end he's still screwing shit up. Anyways, just a dumb nitpick that I'm sure other people have made. It's not the best Marvel movie by a long shot but it's better than most and is certainly fun throughout.

So, given the ending of the movie... Did the social security office also forget about Peter Parker? If so his retirement is totally fucked and he's going to have big problems ever trying to get a legitimate job given that he no longer has proof of citizenship. For that matter, how did he get that apartment at the end? He has no references and given how high the rent is on NY apartments where his he getting the money? These thoughts all bled into my head after the movie too. I try not to let myself fall too deep into this endless pit but it's hard not to start at the very least. I mean, what does MJ do next time she goes through her phone and finds a bunch of photos of her and Peter making out? Ned doesn't have a single photo of Peter? No one has a yearbook? But I imagine his financials still hold up, at least I hope. And why couldn't Dr. Strange immunize himself from the spell? Why couldn't he cast the one spell until the worlds stopped colliding then cast another spell where some people got their memories back? I dunno, I'm not a sorcerer but they should dedicate a movie to MJ just having her head messed with after finding the thousands of items of Peter that she has lying around.

The writers have said in interviews that they had planned to include shots of Peter's image disappearing from photographs Back to the Future style after that spell was cast but the idea didn't make it in the final movie because it was deemed distracting.

The writers have said in interviews that they had planned to include shots of Peter's image disappearing from photographs Back to the Future style after that spell was cast but the idea didn't make it in the final movie because it was deemed distracting. Definitely the biggest plot hole, no matter how you try to spin it, so it will be interesting to see what direction they take it. That was my first thought to make it work. That everyone simply forgets him. Nothing more. So he would still have a social security number, a birth certificate, etc. His school activities, yearbook listings, photos, information and all that would all still exist. Just no one would remember him or remember having included him in anything. But then, as said, you have issues where people are going to see him in photographs and videos and wonder who he is and why they don't remember him. While this would make for an interesting continuation on the story in the future, the bigger problem I feel like is that there is also a video out there probably widespread across the internet, with Mysterio revealing his identity. Now I could say that maybe that's also fine. He would have to deal with everyone finding out who he is again, but at least the universe isn't ripping apart. Just the ending with J. Jonah Jameson not knowing who he is doesn't make much sense in that case. So then you have the alternative. The said Back to the Future-esque ending where reality as we know it was also altered beyond simply people's memory of Peter, which as Dracula pointed out, was the original intent. Of course, you do have the issue with Peter now not existing in any form whatsoever. No records, no identification, etc. This still probably becomes the easier of the two options, though. Remember, the world forgets Peter Parker, not Spider-Man. So Spider-Man should still have connections with the Avengers, SHIELD, and members within. They might not know who he actually is (which could very easily and quickly change if he wanted it to), but they still work with and have worked with him. Thus all he would need to do is get in touch with one of them and get them to create any records and information he needs and injected into any system. For that matter, even though I'd be totally surprised if they did this, he could also just visit Doctor Strange at some point and simply explain what happened. Maybe Strange could conjure up some spell that would allow at least him and anyone of importance to regain their memory. But then does that also include Peter's friends' memories as well? They could possibly do that, but it would be quite the massive copout.
