First, I gotta say I like the sections you've created. Awesome. I'm not sure what Degrassi has to do with Ghibli, but.... ok. However, I have to shake my head at the blatant mixing of blu-rays and DVDs. Tsk tsk. Contrary to what some manifesto writing blowhards will tell you, there's nothing wrong with mixing blu-rays and DVDs. It's the only way to display all you movies without breaking your organizational system. Yeah, it's annoying to have the uneven heights, but that just provides an incentive to do your upgrades and gives you a better idea of when and where to do your upgrading.

No,its pretty gross. BUT you make a good point about the incentive to upgrade, and in fact I actually had them mixed when I started with blu as well, until it reached a point I couldn't take it anymore and had to separate them.

On another note, I usually hate those collectible knick knacks on shelves, but I like the bobbleheads going in their respective sections. I also really like how you have a movie facing cover out every now and then. it looks good.

My preference is to have the Blurays and DVDs separate, and up until recently that's how I kept things. While I'd like to replace everything with Bluray, that's just not practical. I'll occasionally replace a DVD with a Bluray if most of the other films on a particular shelf are all Bluray. For example, I intend to eventually get X3 on Bluray, since all of my other X-Men fillms are Blu. It's not a priority though, because X3 sucks. I'll wait until I find it really cheap.
I first began putting movie related items on my shelves and displaying movies with the cover facing outward just to take up enough space to fill a shelf. After my collection grew and I could do away with the knick-knacks and visible covers, I didn't care for the way the shelves looked anymore and switched back. Unfortunately, I'm almost out of space to keep displaying them this way. Since many of my box sets are of the extra-wide variety, I'm considering buying some multi-disk jewel cases and repacking them into those. Most of these same sets are sold this way now, and the images of the case inserts are on the internet. I can fit three multi-disk jewel cases in the same space currently being taken up by one box set from ten years ago.

The people who still care about physical media are collectors who want brand new pristine copies and cheapskates looking for bargain basement prices. You might get $10 each for the TV sets, don't expect much of anything for the individual flicks.

Again, the knickknacks usually look awful (especially the stands that come with the Walking dead sets, those things are disgusting). But the way you display them is awesome. Everything in its place, and you don't overdo it.

Wyldstar, more thoughts:
Is that a Grindhouse steelbook DVD? I didn't think they made those.
Also, Die Hard 2,3,4, but not 1? Explain.

Oh two more points. I also noticed you dont have Dark Knight. Weird.
And I had no idea the Incredible Hulk case was green instead of blue. That is awesome.

Some of the collection is mixed, and some isn't depending on whim, the constraints of available shelf space and priority based on film quality/nostalgia/sentiment. I do have The Dark Knight on bluray. The mask fitted between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises is a collector's edition case. In addition to The Incredible Hulk bluray case being green, the Birdman bluray case is red.

I remember a time when I had a movie shelf like that. It was a good time. A simpler time.
I can't help but notice that a number of your movies have French titles on them. Are you Canadian or French?
What, if any method do you use to organize them? The TV shows are clearly all together, but it falls apart from there. I see Pixar movies clustered together, except for Wall-E. I see sci-fi movies in a cluster, but not entirely. You have both The Matrix and Dark City, but they're in different places despite being pretty much the same movie (admitedly, I do as well, but in my case one is on bluray while the other is on dvd). There seems to be an intent towards order, but it may be one geared towards your personal preferences that others won't see. I'm not criticizing, just curious.

The French titles are annoying. I do have an organization method but its hard to explain. I basically have subsections which are usually genre based, but sometimes spread out as well. For example, I have 3 or 4 sci-fi sections. And I wanted Walle with sci-fi instead of animated because, well, I just did. Anyway, here's the rest.

Sweet collection, Ian.
I'll try to post pics of mine once I crack 200 Blu Rays, which could be within the month. Currently, I'm sitting at 194, and will hit 197, maybe 198, this weekend. However, pics of my DVD shelf will be complicated, because I have one of those four-sided rotating shelves for those.

I bought Jurassic Park and The Lost World at Wal-Mart for $7.88 each. I almost bought Jurassic Park III but the ghost of IanTheCool came to me and advised me against it. Also, happy 10th anniversary to Batman Begins. Forgive the quality. I posted that in 2012 at the old thread.

I passed them up pretty easily. The first one, and most likely the fourth now, are the only ones worth having on Blu Ray.
Anyway, I went old school this past Friday night. After re-watching the first movie on Blu Ray, I re-watched The Lost World on VHS!

I still have my VCR but it doesn't connect to my modern TV. I guess I need an adapter or something.
