I picked up the CLZ app that Red Letter Media mentioned in one of their recent videos. It's an app for cataloging film libraries by scanning the bar codes. I just finished going through my library, and it's given me a total of 3041 movies.

I've had Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse (1991) on my list for a long time, but I've yet to find it. It is included in the "Full Disclosure Edition" Blu-Ray of Apocalypse Now. Don't know about an individual release though.

Just in time for Avatar 2. They’ve been sitting on this Blu Ray for 10 years.

When is a collection too big? One can never have too many movies, but at some point (I'd say 1000) you stop having a collection and begin curating a library. I'm quite fond of my library, and will continue to add to it for as long as I have the space to display it. That is where I'd say the line needs to be drawn. If the only way you can have more is to store it instead of display it, the time has come to either stop, or reaccess the contents of your library.

When you own three or more Kevin Smith movies. Listen, sir. Clerks. Mallrats. Chasing Amy. Dogma. You can stop after that.

Attended another warehouse clearance sale this weekend, and picked up about fifty movies/TV box sets for the library. I still need to do a recount on the numbers. My app says I have 3117 movies in the library, but that's definitely too high. After looking through the listings, it's clear that the app didn't know how to properly list the Looney Tunes box sets. All the cartoons got listed as individual features. It's a mess. I'll probably find the time to re-enter everything and get a proper total this winter. The app has an option to have different folders, so I'll do one just for movies, another just for TV series, and probably one just for MST3K. That's going to be a weekend long project at minimum.

Well, re-entering the catalog for my library took two weekends, but it's finally done.
2321 Feature Films
408 Seasons of TV or TV Specials
33 Box Sets of Mystery Science Theater 3000
356 Looney Tunes animated shorts
For those who may be interested in acquiring the CLZ app, I can say that it works well most of the time. The app works best on single movies. When it comes to box sets, it varies. If the box set is from a major distributor like Warner Bros. or AMC it appears to be entirely accurate (the major exception being the WB Looney Tunes sets). If it's a box set from a lesser known distributor like Mill Creek, you've really got to keep a close eye on it. Those things were a mess. Their Ultraman: The Complete Series registered in their database as every Ultraman series that's been made since 1965, rather than just the original complete series it actually was. One of their 50 movie box sets had about half of the movies populate with the wrong title, and occasionally the wrong movie entirely. There were some movies in my library that weren't in their system at all, and had to be entered manually. Fortunately, the app is programmed to allow for that. It even lets you use different cover artwork if you prefer.
If you're going to use it to enter a large box set, I'd highly recommend that you open a separate database just for that box set. Once you scan it's barcode and all the movies populate, go through them one at a time and ensure it's accurate, fixing any errors you come across. When it's complete, you can then use the edit function. When you select the trash can, rather than just deleting the file, it will ask you if you want to move everything to a different database. Just pick which one you want the box set to be in.

Man I really want a 007 box set from Dr. No - No Time To Die. I know it'll come at some point but I assumed they would release it by now.
