I think Oliver would be my choice for worst BP winner. As much as I hated Shape of Water I can't say it was the worst.

The Greatest Show on Earth The Broadway Melody of 1929 Cavalcade Cimarron Gigi Around the World in 80 Days But I don't remember anything about Oliver. I just remember I hate it less than the other movies I listed.

One question I like to pose to people is 'When do you think was the last time that anybody turned off the lights, got a bowl of popcorn and popped on A Beautiful Mind? What year do you think it was? 2006? Earlier?'

Guys. Guys. Guys. The King’s Speech. There are way worse winners than The King's Speech. The '30s and '50s are basically half awful among what won.

Shrek was the Best Picture in our hearts. Does he eat him? Is that how Shrek 5 ends?

Does he eat him? Is that how Shrek 5 ends? That was the rumor, but now that Trump has left SAG we may never get the ending to the franchise the people (and Trump) deserve.

The Greatest Show On Earth beat out High Noon and The Quiet Man for Best Picture. Singin' in the Rain wasn't even nominated. That's F'ed up.

I've read that it was out of pure fear of McCarthyism that the Academy went for the blandest option they could go with to subvert any "thematic ties to Communism" or something along those lines. Not sure if that's entirely true, but it has to be only explanation for a piece of crap like Greatest Show on Earth winning the top prize.

I suspect High Noon pissed a lot of people off, for its anti-McCarthyism and/or for its unmanly approach to a Western (the impetus for Hawks and Wayne to make Rio Bravo). The Greatest Show on Earth is inofensive. I mean, it offends me on the grounds that it's fucking boring but I digress.

Both are true, but so what? Singin’ in the Rain was staring them in the face. But in reality, the Academy realized Cecil B. DeMille was 71 years old and they had never given him an Oscar.

Sentimental pick to award their buddy. From what I understand, that the songs in Singin' in the Rain weren't original hurt its awards chances and is something a lot less noticeable now than it was then. Not saying that's valid, certainly Singin' in the Rain is better than at least 80% of the nominees, but still. Of course, for me the best film of 1952, and by a wide margin, is Ikiru, but I guess the academy wasn't ready for that yet.

Ikiru is better than Rashomon, but it's hard to argue with either winning any award.
