A fireman infiltrates the Cartel in South America to avenge his family. I remember the premise. I just don't remember the actual movie itself. I saw it once when it was released and never bothered with it again. The other 9/11 movie I remember watching was Behind Enemy Lines with Owen Wilson and... Gene Hackman?... and I also haven't bothered to re-watch it either. I remember Christmas 10 or 12 years ago I asked for Black Hawk Down on DVD. Imagine my surprise when I opened the DVD shaped present and found....Behind Enemy Lines. My mom got confused when she went to Best Buy to pick it up. I was not happy. I was even less happy when my brother opened it to watch before I could exchange it.

And he speaks no Spanish, by the way. I thought he does speak Spanish at one point, but actually unless it was explained (which I doubt it was) that would only add to a plot problem on when an Austrian immigrant picked up fluent Spanish. He was living in LA for awhile so it just comes with the territory? I'm really thinking I need to rewatch this now, my positive score is bugging me.

I live in LA and believe me you can get by with no Spanish. Although not for much longer....

Hah, I know I was kidding. Maybe after firefighting by day, Ahnuld was in Spanish night classes. Who would've thought those would've paid off....for revenge!?!?

For Doomsday and SnoBorderZeroRAW DEAL (1986)Of all the movies that Arnold Schwarzenegger made in the 1980's, Raw Deal is his least popular. And for good reasons. It's awful. Okay... maybe not awful, but it's definitely a disappointment. Schwarzenegger plays an FBI agent by the name of "Joey Brenner" who infiltrates the Chicago mafia. We're all used to Schwarzenegger playing characters with American names even though he's clearly an Austrian bodybuilder in any role that isn't Conan or The Terminator. But we always go along with it because Schwarzenegger's movies are tongue-in-cheek. But in Raw Deal, with the exception of the over-the-top action scenes, the movie takes itself seriously. It forces you to roll your eyes at the idea of Schwarzenegger showing up at the doorstep of the mafia and killing everyone with no effort whatsoever. But I also can't help but notice that if the role of "Joey Brenner" had been played by someone else, the movie might have worked. And it didn't have to be someone serious. Sylvester Stallone could have played the role and it would have worked out perfectly. And that might have been their intention. It's my understanding that Schwarzenegger and producer Dino De Laurentiis made the movie together to fulfill a contractual obligation and hopefully raise money for Total Recall. So I guess Raw Deal is a victim of circumstances and I shouldn't be too harsh in my criticism. At least the movie gave us the classic line, "you shouldn't drink and bake" and the incredibly cheese-tastic soundtrack: OVERALL... I would give the movie a "C". I think that's fair. I don't know how Doomsday or SnoBorder feel about it. But we all know that Schwarzenegger ended up making movies in the later part of his career that are much worse than Raw Deal.

Damn, I've never seen Raw Deal. If it's on youtube then I may have to sit and watch it on a rainy, beer riddled afternoon.

I have seen "Raw Deal" and Neverending's assessment is definitely on point, though I'm not so sure another actor could've saved it. It doesn't have much to remember, and Ahnuld is pretty boring and lacks the charm from his other films. Worth a watch if you're an Ahnuld fan like myself, but other than that steer clear.

And even though it's a bad movie, I'd still watch it again over "Batman and Robin", "Junior", "The Villain", and "Red Sonja". "Hercules in New York" is the worst of all, but it's also absolutely hilarious.

ERASER (1996)Yesterday, PG Cooper was bitching about Arnold Schwarzenegger skydiving in the latest Terminator movie. Well... I guess he hasn't seen Eraser where Schwarzenegger jumps out of a plane, pulls out a gun and starts shooting the plane. And no, I'm not making this up. It's a real scene. SnoBorderZero will vouch for me. But if Coop hasn't seen the movie or simply forgot about it, I understand. Eraser received terrible reviews and was a box office disappointment. And yes, I know the movie grossed $101 million but it cost $100 million to produce so that's why there's no "Eraser 2: You've Been Erased Again." The movie is considered a lesser Schwarzenegger movie and will forever be in the shadow of Jingle All the Way, the other Schwarzenegger movie from 1996. But it shouldn't... because... it's awesome. Eraser is directed by Chuck Russell (The Dream Warriors, The Mask) and is about a U.S. Marshall who has to protect a witness (Vanessa Williams) from being killed by cops and politicians for revealing that they're selling high-tech weapons to terrorists. Russell does a very good job of balancing a legitimate action-thriller with Schwarzenegger's usual shenanigans. Even though some scenes are a bit over-the-top. So if you think Eraser is crap or haven't bothered to watch it, give it a second chance. You won't regret it. B says Doomsday
