The Lone Ranger had it's first theatrical adaptation from the TV series that year. That would probably be a pretty wild theater experience - kids with cap guns everywhere, etc.
Either that or Baby Doll, with a scandalized church mom audience.

Rodney Dangerfield will show up in a bathrobe and accidentally flash everyone. Big Trouble in Little China with 1godzillafan. He’s forgiven me for past transgressions. Aliens with PhantomKnight. Maximum Overdrive with Doomsday. But we actually ended up snorting coke with Stephen King in the restroom. Friday the 13th: Jason Lives with SnoBorderZero and 1godzillafan. Threesome? Howard the Duck with Doomsday. But we actually ended up snorting coke with George Lucas in the restroom. The Fly with PG Cooper in Toronto. David Cronenberg sits next to PG Cooper, and well, let’s just say the authorities get involved. Crocodile Dundee with Dracula. Against his will, of course. The Color of Money with Doomsday. But we actually ended up snorting coke with Martin Scorsese in the restroom. Star Trek: The Voyage Home with Jibbs, but he’ll insist there’s an empty seat in between us. The Golden Child with SnoBorderZero. We party with Charlie Murphy and Rick James afterwards. |

The shock of my life was everyone at my school going to watch Freddy vs Jason on opening weekend. You’d think it was the Avengers. X2: X-Men United, The Matrix Reloaded, Pirates of the Caribbean and Jason vs Freddy were the big movies that summer. In my hood, anyway. Crazy. |

I find Manhattan to be stupid fun. Jason Lives annoys the fuck out of me. I generally agree with you there. Those movies that think they're a lot smarter than the genre they're in, but actually are just as stupid and fall on the same conventions (Deadpool is a great example of this). But I guess that's also why I liked Jason Lives. It knows it's the sixth installment in a franchise that doesn't operate in any mental capacity whatsoever and winks at its audience as Jason does his thing. Is it good meta-horror like Wes Craven's New Nightmare? Not at all, but it's at least trying to shake up the formula even if it's not very successful at doing so. But it does have actual children attending the summer camp, so it has that. |
