X-Men: First Class
I don't dislike Man of Steel, but it's not a good film either. Michael Shannon chewing scenery is great though.

"Where did you train? On a farm?" Haha, he's fantastic. I will say that what Man of Steel absolutely does get right is its villain, which is usually a generic afterthought in a lot of comic book films including from the MCU which pisses me off. Superman himself is pretty bland personally, so having an eccentric villain is a must and Man of Steel nailed that.

Not defending him in any way, but I don't think Jesse Eisenberg's performance as Lex Luthor can be characterized as a generic afterthought. If nothing else, he sticks out like a sore thumb.

Can we at least agree that Steppenwolf was a generic afterthought?

Can we at least agree that Steppenwolf was a generic afterthought? And let's not forget Doomsday. That character only works as the catalyst for a story. Making him a climactic end boss was a deeply misguided choice.

Can we at least agree that Steppenwolf was a generic afterthought? An alien with a horned helmet leading a brainless army to conquer Earth using a magic cube? I mean, there's no agreement about it. A generic afterthought is exactly what he is.

Release the Joss whedon cut The Whedon Cut is his sex tape with the mom from the pointless family in the movie which she agreed to film because he promised her a "juicy, important role."

Release the Joss whedon cut Didn’t he get cancelled? With very little specifics. Film Twitter/AVClub writers just crapping themselves in delight dancing on his grave. I have no idea why I read that site anymore. Nostalgia for Deadspin kinja?

X-Men: First Class
I'm sorely tempted to post an extended rant about how awful Man of Steel is, but I won't. The number of people around here who actually like it is disturbing to me.

THE FINAL VOTE:X-Men: First ClassMan of Steel is the only Zack Snyder movie other than Watchmen I get a legit enjoyment out of. It's flawed, but it has good intentions on display. I can name some flaws in X-Men: First Class too, including some casting choices that I......intensely dislike, to put it simply. But the good casting choices save it and make the movie work, especially James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. If the increasingly worse "decades" X-Men movies are worth watching for any reason, it's for them. And they're at their best here and genuinely make the movie exceptional. The ScoreMan of Steel: 3 X-Men: First Class: 6If Man of Steel were to lose to an X-Men movie, at least it wasn't to one directed by a rapist. DC: 15 Marvel: 14 Draw: 2ROUND 32!
IN THIS CORNERSuperheroes: Bruce Willis as Frank Moses, John Malkovich as Marvin Boggs, Helen Mirren as Victoria Winslow, Mary-Louise Parker as Sarah Ross, Supervillains: Anthony Hopkins as Edward Bailey, Byung-hun Lee as Han Chi Bai, Neil McDonough as Jack Horton Civilians: Catherine Zeta Jones as Katja Petrokovitch, Brian Cox as Ivan Simonov, David Thewlis as the Frog Run Time: 1 Hour 56 Minutes Director: Dean Perisot (Galaxy Quest, Bill & Ted Face the Music) Writer: Jon Hoeber & Erich Hoeber (Red) Music: Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, Predator, The Mummy Returns) Cinematography: Enrique Chediak (The Faculty, The Maze Runner, Bumblebee) Tomatometer: 44% IMDB: 6.6 Story: After Marvin believes he is being watched and fakes his own death, Frank and Sarah find themselves the targets of corrupt FBI Agents who are looking for him. After Frank, Sarah, and Marvin go on the run, they find themselves in the crosshairs of top assassin Han Chi Bai also. This group of R.E.D.s must go through more of their rolodex of fellow retirees to help them survive and figure out why everyone wants them dead. Pros: Ehhhhhh...it's fine I guess. Cons: I'll be honest, I don't remember much about this one. AND IN THIS CORNERSuperheroes: Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Sebastian Stan as James "Bucky" Barnes, Tommy Lee Jones as Chester Phillips, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, Neil McDonough as Timothy "Dum Dum" Dugan, Derek Luke as Gabe Jones, Kenneth Choi as Jim Morita, JJ Fields as James Montgomery Falsworth, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury Supervillains: Hugo Weaving as Johann Schmitt/Red Skull, Toby Jones as Armin Zola Civilians: Stanley Tucci as Abraham Erskine Run Time: 2 Hours 4 Minutes Director: Joe Johnston (Honey I Shrunk the Kids, The Rocketeer, Jumanji, Jurassic Park III, The Wolfman) Writer: Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (The Chronicles of Narnia) Music: Alan Silvestri (Red 2) Cinematographer: Shelly Johnson (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, Sky High, Jurassic Park III, The Wolfman, The Expendables 2) Tomatometer: 80% IMDB: 6.9 Story: During World War II, a super soldier serum finds a test subject in weakling with heart Steve Rogers, who is determined to serve his country in one way or another. The serum turns him into a large, muscular male specimen, but the Nazi subsidiary Hydra ensure that another super soldier cannot be created by assassinating the creator, Dr. Erskine. Initially having trouble with the Army taking him seriously, Rogers eventually leads the charge on a mission to save American captives at a Hydra base. With several of the rescued POWs acting as his "Howling Commandos," Rogers takes the name "Captain America" and wages war on on Hydra and it's leader, the Red Skull. Pros: I once watched this with one of my bi-lady friends who had never seen it before, fell in love with Hayley Atwell, and constantly referred to her as her "Future wife." I'd also let Atwell have her way with me. But I'd also let Chris Evans have his way with me too. Cons: Weakest of the MCU Captain America movies...but Jesus, that still makes it pretty fucking good. FIGHT!
