My Votes: Gone with the Wind: Keep, it's inflation-adjusted box office is reason enough to keep. The film was an undeniable cultural touchstone, despite how problematic it is. I don't think the problematic aspects can be excused, though, and the placement is probably lower in the top 100 Shawshank Redemption: Cut. It's a great movie, but i don't think it's top 100. Cult-popularity doesn't mean it should be on the list.

Gone with the Wind: Never been a fan of this movie. Even ignoring all the "problematic" stuff, I just think it's an overlong soap opera and most of what makes it "important" has less to do with artistry and more to do with the fact that they just spent a lot of money one it. Cut.
Shawshank Redemption: Certainly a good movie, but can I think of a hundred American films I like more? Yeah, I think I can. Cut.

I'm not a fan of Gone with the Wind, but the movie was a steady ticket seller for decades and is heavily ingrained into American film culture. I think it's one that needs to be kept.
Keep Shawshank because why not.
