I always thought it would be funny if AFI did another list but slugged in some random ass shitty movie just to make people scream.
38. Chinatown 39. The Gold Rush 40. Here Comes The Boom 41. Taxi Driver 42. Jaws

The Truman Show: When looked back on now, it feels all the more prescient in terms of the general public becoming overly fixated on reality TV. On top of that, it's just an impeccably-made film.
Gladiator: One of the last big-budget adult-oriented action dramas that still holds up twenty years later and can go toe-to-toe with the old school Hollywood epics like Ben-Hur and Spartacus, and just might also be better than them. They just don't make 'em like this anymore.

If any Jim Carrey movie gets in the AFI Top 100 it'll be Dumb & Dumber.

Halloween (1978)- Because the list could benefit from some Slasher representation, so let's honor it by picking one of the more successful franchises that started over 40 years ago.

Rocky (1976)- One that will always have special meaning for me. Crazy to think how Stallone started multiple franchises in his career, this being one of them. Say what you want about Stallone or even the rest of this up and down franchise, but the first one is a legitimately great movie, and it features a legitimately great performance from Stallone and from The Obsolete Man himself, Burgess Meredith. It's a great underdog story, and a fantastic ending. Rocky is actually on the list.

The Fly (1986): Because it's the greatest piece of body horror put to film and an amazing blend of mainstream horror thrills and Cronenbergian weirdness. Also it's the closest I can get to sneaking a Canadian film in.
The Manchurian Candidate (1962): This might be a lost clause given its loss in donny's tourney thread, but god damn do I love this movie. Just an incredibly well-constructed thriller that was hauntingly ahead of its time. In an era where Russian meddling in American politics and an ignorant blowhard riding a wave of bigotry and nonsensical rambling to the highest office of power, it still holds up.

Adaptation. The list needs more Kaufman and this is a master class in both writing and acting if you ask me. Top to bottom an amazing movie with incredible characters and is rather unconventional in narrative and structure.

If any Jim Carrey movie gets in the AFI Top 100 it'll be Dumb & Dumber. Confession time: I've never actually seen Dumb & Dumber in full. Though I highly doubt it's better than The Truman Show.

I think there are a lot of horror movies that would go in over the Fly. Also if he wants to sneak in an almost-Canadian film he can always nominate an Adam Sandler movie.

Neither does The Exorcist. Hence why Dumb and Dumber is better than The Exorcist.
