They don't come out and say it like they do in the book, but the implication of Goldfinger is that Pussy Galore is a lesbian (as are her band of flying circus mates). Note how she says "you can turn off the charm, I'm immune" in her first meeting with Bond? Total lesbian coding. But then the movie has the nerve to essentially say that the key to the mission is for Bond to force himself on her, thus opening her mind to the pleasures of the dick, and turning her straight. Virulent homophobia. Tatiana was at least working out of some sense of patriotism and, at the end of the day, Bond hasn't exactly been opposed to "prostituting" himself for queen and country over the course of the series so there isn't a total double standard. So, the only woke option here is plainly FRWL. Here's the issue though. We don't know for sure if Pussy Galore is homosexual. She could be bi-sexual. She may tell Bond she's gay but her actions speak differently. Take, for example, the scene in which Goldfinger gets handsy with her. She stops that right away and Goldfinger knows not to fuck with her. Like I said, she's a big girl. She can defend herself. And with Bond she never really had her guard up. She was always jokey and flirty with him. Bond was like, "you know what, I think this chick is bi" and he wasn't wrong. She could have turned him down the way she turned down Goldfinger, the dude who literally killed a group of mobsters in his living room. She wasn't scared of Goldfinger. She was ready to go 12-rounds with the motherfucker. So, come on, we know she wanted that Bond dick. |

It's far from an original concept, the sequels were crap, the acting was widely mocked at time of release, and its primary legacy is giving a bunch of incel neckbeards a tortured metaphor to understand why the world is against them.
I like it as a fun popcorn flick, but it's far from seminal.

I like it as a fun popcorn flick, but it's far from seminal. Star Wars isn't original either, but it's blending of different styles and mythologies transform it into something all its own. Same deal with The Matrix. As for the acting being widely mocked, I don't see why it should other than because Keanu took a lot of shit in the 90s. He's perfectly used in the film while Fishburne and Weaving give really awesome turns. As for the incels, you can make the exact same argument for Fight Club. Can't fault the movie for idiots not geting it. Beyond any of that, The Matrix is also one of the most iconic action movies ever made. It pioneered new special effects and tangibly changed the action movies which followed. It's absolutely seminal. And it's also fucking great. |

Have you people actually re-watched Jurassic Park? It’s not that good. It’s built on a dumb premise: Newman shutting down the computer/security system to steal an embryo. 1) Did he really need to go to such lengths and 2) who the fuck is building a competing Jurassic Park? Then you got that stupid girl who spends 90% of the movie screaming like an idiot but becomes a computer genius when the plot needs her to. And if all that wasn’t bad enough, Jeff Goldblum doesn’t do anything for half the movie; basically after the T-Rex escapes and eats the dude sitting in the toilet.
