An Officer and a Gentleman is one of the most overly dramatic movies ever made. And I love how “the score” is just the instrumental to Up Here Where We Belong. They play it on loop no matter the scene. Debra Winger’s tittys out. Up Here Where We Belong. Dude hangs himself in the bathroom. Up Here Where We Belong. The best part of the ending isn’t the actual song playing or Richard Gere carrying Debra Winger out the factory, but that cunt Lynette sarcastically shouting, “way to go, Paula.” I laughed at that harder than I should have.

The official story is that the score had already been written when they decided to incorporate the theme from the movie into the song, but it's pretty hard to hear it that way today.

Outbreak (1995)
I know, I know...like with Contagion, Outbreak is a cliche re-watch right now. But, hey, gotta strike while the iron's hot. Okay, so I didn't mean to compare those two movies right off the bat, but now that I did, let's just get it out of the way: Outbreak isn't as good as Contagion. Whereas Steven Soderbergh's film took a more grounded, as-close-to-realistic approach as possible to a pandemic (which makes it feel all the eerily more prophetic right now), Outbreak takes a decidedly more Hollywood approach, putting a pandemic at the center of essentially an action thriller. That's not necessarily a knock against Wolfgang Peterson's film, though, because it still provides a pretty entertaining ride -- or, at least, as entertaining as a movie like this can be at the present time -- but it obviously has a different goal in mind. A lot of the first half gets into the science and procedure of discovering and dealing with an outbreak, with one of the more particularly chilling moments being a scene which shows the virus being passed from person to person in a movie theater. And then the second half essentially becomes a big chase movie as the main characters track down the source - a capuchin monkey. I first saw Outbreak around 2009/2010, aka before Contagion was released, and at the time, Outbreak's portrayal of a pandemic certainly seemed sobering. But after Contagion, its intentions to use the base idea to justify another big-budget thriller become clearer. Now, there's nothing wrong with that, but I could've done without some of the cliched writing that sees Dustin Hoffman's and Rene Russo's characters in the midst of a divorce, having there be a helicopter chase climax and even an outright villain character. Outbreak certainly pales in comparison to a movie like Contagion, but I can concede that it accomplishes what it sets out to do.

SnoBorderZero, I’m watching your favorite movie Man in the Iron Face. Every actor in this movie does whatever accent they want. Hilarious.

I was the only kid in the 7th grade who thought that movie was crap when it first came out. They said I was stupid, they said I was wrong, they said I was weird. Well Stephanie in 7th grade guess what, if you go watch Man in the Iron Mask in 2020 you'll realize one thing: Doomsday wins! So go fuck yourself Stephanie!

The Musketeer parts are all good, but the rest of the actors all stunk.

I didn’t know a single person who cared about this movie, even Leo fans. Although Leo is perfectly cast as an effeminate jackass. lol.

Hey, SnoBorderZero, have you watched Runaway Train (1985) written by Akira Kurosawa, directed by some Russian dude, produced by Canon Films (of all people) and nominated for three Academy Awards?

Kurosawa didn't write it, he came up with the concept in the 60s, never made it, and then had nothing to do the final film except for a "story by" credit.

That was such an '80s trailer, complete with the fucking Autumn Wind song the Raiders use lol. Sure, I'd watch that it looks fun.

Man in the Iron Mask?
That movie is terrible. What the hell was up with all of them doing different accents? It's probably the only time I've ever thought that John Malkovich was absolutely awful in a performance. And DiCaprio works as Louis XIV but is horrible as the meek "double" or whatever.

He made a bunch of awful poop jokes the whole movie and was just an obnoxious buffoon. I watched it not long ago, I think last year? Bad movie, very bad.

I haven't seen it nor thought about it since it came out. I recall my review at the time being "I saw a movie."

If it wasn't, Michael Jordan would've called it by its correct name in The Last Dance.

Three Musketeers was one of my favs in my youth. Tim Curry is off the chain. Also an early hot role for Julie Delpy.
