I watched a random episode of Matlock — because I don’t know what I’m doing with my life anymore. SnoBorderZero is too young to know about Matlock, but Doomsday and I are elderly and well aware of its reputation among grandparents. Matlock and In the Heat of the Night with Archie Bunker were the top shows among the AARP demographic. This episode of Matlock is called The Body. Season 2. Episode 12. Originally aired on January 5, 1988. A disgruntled housewife confronts her husband’s mistress at a health spa. The episode starts with a catfight. Old lady vs young woman. Good shit. Then later on the mistress is murdered and the housewife is the prime suspect. She hires old fart Matlock as her lawyer. Matlock is introduced while stuffing a hot dog in his mouth. Then the bulk of the episode is him playing detective at the health spa and where hilarity ensues. Dieting? Exercising? Ew. It’s funny how Andy Griffith played the straight man in his 1960’s sitcom but here he is a buffoon. What range. It’s also intriguing that he was a relatively young man in the 60’s but is somehow 80 years old. Bruh. Its only been 20 years. Clint Eastwood was still playing Dirty Harry at the time — for God’s sake. I don’t buy Matlock as an effective lawyer. It’s be like asking us to believe that Joe Biden can stay awake for 4 hours straight. But Matlock does what the script says and I was entertained. I’d catch another episode if I can. Plus, that theme song is badass. |

Matlock was a favorite of mine as a kid whenever I was home from school (along with The Price is Right). Didn't know until much later that it was known for being entertainment for the elderly. In retrospect it was basically a shameless ripoff of Perry Mason. |

Matlock was a favorite of mine as a kid All the kids were watching Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers but Dracula was watching Matlock. |
