I know there are little plotholes. I know there are ridiculous comments about love.
That doesn't affect me in any way.
The scope of this film, the things that it stands for, the things it makes you think about...they all outweigh the trivial negatives. I feel sad that anyone can watch this and not come away thinking positively, not about the film but about our existence, about our purpose and our future.
There are people on this website that are addicted to the furthering and the survival of the human race and here's a movie that focuses on that very subject and at the same time is moving and suspensefully made and fantastically acted and created technically to the highest degree.
I just can't understand how people in the film industry can watch it and not be in awe that somebody who is one of their peers can make such an epic blockbuster that permeates deeper than your Michael Bays and, dare I say it, even your Steven Spielbergs haven't and won't. (That's right, I went there.)
This kind of filmmaking is important because it feels like this kind of medium might become the only way that we can get through to people and access them and make them reconsider what matters to them in life.
I guess I'm a Nolanite.
We need people who can make blockbusters and still get through to the sheep. Because it's the sheep who are responsible for where the world is headed.

So anyway... A month or so ago, Toshiba did a Facebook contest in collaboration with Interstellar. You had to answer 5 questions about Toshiba against the clock, and the fastest ten people got an Interstellar goodie bag. They did at least 5 separate competitions and in two of them I was in the top ten at the end of the competition window. So I won an official T-Shirt, a plant in a can, a electromagnetic pen, a notebook, a tote bag and a couple of cinema tickets. Twice. Now, I've used everything from my first goodie bag and my second plant too, but everything else from my second pack is just gathering dust. So, if anybody wants anything I've just mentioned, just say and I will post it to you. The t-shirt is off limits because I'm sending that to J-Bone no matter what he says, but I have a pen, notebook and tote bag that people are open to claim. Just say the word! Just a reminder, the plant is unavailable. The one in my room hasn't grown an inch over 2 weeks but the one at my folks' place sprouted within 2 days! Cray cray. In terms of movie promotional material this was a pretty good competition.

It's like a gift bag that folds flat. Probably cardboard, with a shiny surface.

It certainly is.
The one at my folks' place has really blossomed within a few days but the one in my house hasn't budged in over 3 weeks...
The seed within has 'Interstellar' written across it.

Btw you all need to send me your addresses.
I'm looking at you JBone (with your fancy new address), Fanible, Coop and Mel.
I may even turn up at Bond's place with a load of beers. Though I'm worried that after 2 beers he'll be shitfaced and it'll take me 20.

He did it, and it was beautiful. Full review tomorrow but for now... 9.5/10 I stand by this, and more. Everyone here knows that I've been a pretty big Christopher Nolan defender over the years, and it's with that in mind that it pains me to report that I found Interstellar to be flawed and disappointing. Going to be a while until I get a full review written, but I found a lot of the writing to be a little clunky and most of the characters to be kind of weak. I didn't really like Nolan's decision to give such a limited view of what future-Earth was like. The story was predicated on some coincidences that I couldn't really overlook and found that the film fell into some cliched territory all too often. From a visual/spectacle perspective I thought Gravity did the space thing better and might have even thought that Prometheus did the alien planet thing better. I also think Nolan sort of shot himself in the foot by inviting so many comparisons to 2001 on even a basic story level without achieving anywhere near the same level of mystery or grandeur. Having said all that, I do think there's still a whole lot to admire about it (especially towards the end), but I do ultimately think it's a failure. I quoted you to argue with you but you're so damn articulate. Do you still think it's "ultimately a failure"?

I'm going to have to pass on the bag. I'd kill it in a week.:/ What?! Bare in mind that it's paper thin and will cost a miniscule amount to post. It would make a good container for a gift, if nothing else. I'm sure you can find some use for it. Otherwise I shall open it up to the forum.

I think the framework for a great movie is there but it's undercut by a number of very bad decisions and some bad timing.
