So I think this is gonna be it.
And if not, fuck it dude, let's go bowling.
1. The Irishman- Great performances, strong story telling and some odd de-aging.
2. The Lighthouse- Amazing cinematography, two crazy, over the top performances. Both men were snubbed. Whole movies was snubbed.
3. Uncut Gems- Sandman. Safdies. Best performance of the year.
4. Once Upon A Time in Hollywood- A slower, more reflective Tarantino story then we're used to seeing, but one that I welcomed.
5. Little Women- Greta outdoes Ladybird, as does Saorise. Well told story of adolescence and the passing of time.
6. Portrait of a Lady on Fire- Forbidden love, amazing locations, my favorite foreign flick of the year.
7. Parasite- Meticulous set design lends itself to the story.
8. Ad Astra- Another example of some of the best cinematography of the year. Space. Pitt. Solid follow-up to Lost City of Z. Good score.
9. The Souvenir- A slow burn of a story focusing on a young couples relationship. It could only end one way and it did. Good stuff.
10. Midsommar- Vibrant and colorful follow-up to Hereditary, yet equally disturbing. Great job of world building and overall sense of dread.
Interesting Nuggets
- Big year for Brad and Florence, occupying two films in the top 10.
- A24 coming in hot with 4 films in the 10. Safe to say one of my favorite studios.
