I haven't even had time to watch mine from this round. I'm probably out for now.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019)It was truly infuriating to watch Portrait of a Lady on Fire become the critical darling of 2019 cinema while Neon's fucked release schedule made it impossible for me to see the film within the year. Why most you hurt me, so? Finally catching up with the film, it really is as great as everyone has been saying. Céline Sciamma and actors Noémie Merlant and Adèle Haenel do a marvelous job subtly building a deep intimacy between leads. Rather like falling in love, you don't realize how deep you're in until it's too late. The film in general is beautifully made and really comes alive in a handful of amazing scenes. The beach scene from the poster is hauntingly sparse and the final stretch of the film is amazing. In this way, Portrait of a Lady on Fire reminded me a lot of Call Me By Your Name. Much of the runtime feels like it exists outside of time until suddenly we're remained of impermanence and each scene hits a perfect emotional tone before hitting a powerful end. But while Call Me By Your Name ends on a deep sadness, there's more of a bitter-sweet quality to Portrait of a Lady on Fire. Certainly, something has been lost, but the overall emphasis is on the powerful impacts characters have made on each other. Beautiful film. A Real glad you liked. One of my favorites of last year/decade. Not for nothing, the leads are babes as well.

I'm gonna save my comment on someone else's options, secretly hoping that the person picks the movie that absolutely blows.

I'll be shocked if PhantomKnight hasn't seen Maverick, but if he hasn't, it's pretty fun so I'd check that movie out.

Altered States looks interesting. Plus, since I'm such a huge Fringe fan (if you couldn't tell from my avatar), I've heard it referenced quite a few times since both have Blair Brown and sensory deprivation.

I actually just bought Death Becomes Her on Vudu because I remember my mom loving that movie when I was a kid but I never sat down to watch it beginning to end. I need to get around to that.
