Walkabout (1971)I would respect this movie a lot more if the characters didn’t come across like sociopaths. There’s a noble return-to-nature theme running through the story which, I suspect, is why the film has acclaim. But are we seriously gonna ignore the two central characters, hilariously billed as Girl and White Boy, displaying less human emotions than Jordan Schlansky from the Conan O’ Brien show? The plot is set in motion when their father drives them to the Australian desert, tries to kill them and then sets himself on fire. If that shit happened to you, you’d freak the fuck out. But these kids are like, “um... okay?” Then they’re roaming around the desert, on the brink of death, and they’re like, “um... okay?” Finally, an aboriginal shows up and rescues them. That’s the section of the movie people generally talk about and praise. It’s National Geographic but with underage nudity. Then the movie goes full circle by making the characters go back to acting like weirdos. The aboriginal kills himself for no reason and the characters are like, “um... okay?” Then the characters wander off and it cuts to a flash-forward/flashback like if it were an episode of Lost. This is what we call art, right? This doesn’t belong in a museum. It needs to be hidden in a warehouse like in the ending of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Those all sound interesting. I've seen The Grey, so that's off. Zodiac's one of the few Fincher movies I haven't seen, but both Tunnel and Nebraska sound like they're worth investing time into also.
I'm going to think about this one for a bit.
