It's been awhile since I've seen them but my impressions were: Mad Max - Very low budget, I don't think people realize how bare bones the movie actually is until they watch it. It's decent fun and slightly impressive for the budget, plus Mel is in full Australian accent here, but after seeing it once I didn't feel the need to view it again. Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior - The best, easily, and obviously the only real source material that this new one is drawing from. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome - A bit of a mess but not unwatchable. It starts out interesting but once Gibson teams up with the band of kids that fell right out of Neverland it really falls apart. It makes the ultimate sequel mistake: when the first two films are R, you don't top them with a PG-13 movie. Never works, ever. Mad Max is an Indie movie. People need to keep that in mind when they watch it. It's okay for what it is. The Road Warrior is a masterpiece. I was obsessed with that movie in High School. As for Thunderdome, it gets a bad rap because of the kids, but the kids were important to the story. They represent the future and hope for mankind. I think, on paper, it's the best Mad Max movie. Road Warrior is just the better executed one.

Yeah, Thunderdome had some good ideas, but it just didn't contain the grit of Road Warrior. I mean the town that Tina Turner rules over is pretty interesting and the set design is top-notch, I just remember the film losing major steam by the time he meets up with the kids. I was always surprised that they never made a 4th film.

I was always surprised that they never made a 4th film. Thunderdome wraps up the story. Mad Max saves the kids. They rebuild society. He becomes a folk hero. The End.

It's literally the same ending as Road Warrior... but on a bigger scale.

They love it at Burning Man, they have a to-scale replica of it.

Thunderdome is great. Anyone says otherwise and you end up taking your chances on a spin of the wheel!

I'm still hoping this is fun, but the lack of news positive or otherwise worries me. Might end up being another beautiful looking disaster.

I'm still hoping this is fun, but the lack of news positive or otherwise worries me. Might end up being another beautiful looking disaster. Critics haven't reviewed it yet and most preview screenings are next week. Just be patient. We're still in "Avengers mode". Although watch the interview. George Miller reveals that the movie is about human trafficking (not water or oil) and that each Mad Max should be looked at as a reflection of the time period. Mad Max isn't about the future. It's about what's going on now. That's why each Mad Max is so different from the other. Even this movie, despite its Road Warrior esque qualities, has nothing to do with Road Warrior.

Yeah I read that too which is pretty neat, I've always liked that element of the originals. I'm just worried because as fun as the trailers are, the story seems razor-thin and the settings don't seem to change, just a ton of wasteland action sequences. Not trying to be a hater, I want this to be good and will see it eventually no matter what, but I'm a bit skeptical.

Beyond Thunderdome, which is full of story, is hated by most. Fury Road seems to find a happy middle.

Isn't this movie supposed to be one big chase scene, with little dialogue, anyway?

It sure seems that way, Hardy's Max seems like even less of a talker than Gibson's.

I'm a little bummed that The Road Warrior isn't available to stream on Netflix or Amazon Prime. I watched Mad Max on Netflix a few months ago and I've got Beyond Thunderdome on dvd. My trilogy binge is incomplete

You guys better pay to watch this movie! variety.com/2015/film/news/box-office-mad-max-fury-road-pitch-perfect-2-eye-40-million-openings-1201490072When “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Pitch Perfect 2″ debut next week, they look poised to divide and conquer the genders, with the apocalyptic adventure monopolizing men and the a cappella comedy cornering women. Early tracking suggests that both films will open to $40 million or higher, with most firms giving the edge to “Pitch Perfect 2.” Sources at Universal, the studio behind “Pitch Perfect 2,” are pleased with how trailers and promotional materials are resonating with moviegoers, but are more conservative with their estimates, predicting a debut of $30 million. That would double the first film’s opening and be a strong start for a film that carries a slender $29 million budget. “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which cost $150 million-plus to make, poses a much riskier proposition for backers Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow, starting with the fact that the most recent film in the series, “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” was in theaters 30 years ago. Moreover, the action movie starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron carries an R-rating, which limits its potential audience. The combination of “Mad Max:Fury Road” and “Pitch Perfect 2,” not to mention the continued presence of the latest “Avengers” movie, does have the potential to break records. Last year, “Godzilla” opened to $93.2 million, helping the overall box office for the weekend before Memorial Day reach $178.5 million, a new high-water mark. That could easily be eclipsed this go round, studio sources say, continuing what is shaping up to be a torrid year at the multiplexes.

I don't see this making $40 mil in its opening weekend, not domestic anyways. I would think $25 mil is more accurate, I really have no idea what most people's enthusiasm level for the film is but $40 mil opening for this kind of movie is one I'd have to see to believe.

They should have added a CGI Paul Walker. Guaranteed 100 million opening.
