I was super shocked to hear of Boseman's passing. That being said its woven into the storylines already that there were others who assumed the Black Panther mantle so there will probably be another one and he will be in a montage as the prior one.
I also wouldn't be surprised if they simply put that character on hold for a little while.

I don't see an easy road to putting any other character besides T'Challa carrying the mantle of Black Panther. If Shuri had been developed as being a badass instead of a tech whiz, she could have stepped into the role as she did in the comics, but she wasn't. Shuri was batted aside pretty casually by Killmonger in Black Panther and Corvus Glaive in Infinity War.
Having just watched Tenet, I can easily see J.D. Washington sliding into the role.

I don't see an easy road to putting any other character besides T'Challa carrying the mantle of Black Panther. If Shuri had been developed as being a badass instead of a tech whiz, she could have stepped into the role as she did in the comics, but she wasn't. Shuri was batted aside pretty casually by Killmonger in Black Panther and Corvus Glaive in Infinity War. Having just watched Tenet, I can easily see J.D. Washington sliding into the role. Actually it's for this reason I believe she could be a fantastic new Black Panther. Assuming we don't see them make her a Mary Sue where she suddenly and inexplicably is a badass, we could see a good story arc for her as she has to figure out how to become the new Black Panther. Showing her struggles and learning how to be a better combatant, in addition to a ruler. Where as T'Challa was presumably raised on the idea, Shuri has remained in the background, possibly even preferring to be a scientist, until she's called in to pick up the mantle. That sounds like a damn good story to me. |

I can't help but suspect that Shuri isn't going to survive the first act of the movie, considering that Angela Bassett says in her speech that she's the last of her family. Plus, Riri "Ironheart" Williams is in Wakanda Forever, and is also a tech genius at the same level as Shuri or Tony Stark. |
