This smells like a negotiation tactic more than anything -- plus, almost every story I read on this has been updated with "negotiations are still ongoing."

That moment when Spidey realizes he's leaving Kevin Feige for Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, and Tom Rothman.

Isn't there still at least one more Spidey movie that Marvel will be working on? That was part of the deal. That if the second one made at least a billion, that would make a third one a certainty.

As far as I'm aware, the deal was always for two Spider-Man movies and the use of the character in Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame.

Lets face it: the MCU essentially wrapped up this year anyway.

Isn't there still at least one more Spidey movie I believe that’s what started this whole mess. Disney wants to renegotiate their current deal. If it was a new one, Sony might be a bit more flexible, but if they bend over now they’ll be fucked even harder next time. My understanding is that Tom Holland is contracted to two more movies, whether that be Spider-Man 3 or Venom crossover. And the possibility of a Venom crossover has been discussed so openly that it was brought up in the press junket. Both Tom Holland and directed Jon Watts admitted it's something they’ve given serious thought to.

I give it until Friday when this is resolved. They'd both be stupid not to come to an agreement.

Yeah, D23 is this weekend. If they really are still trying to work it out, I'd imagine Disney would want to avoid these questions.

I hope Sony sticks to their guns. I agree, in theory. Sony will need to throw Disney a bone, but nothing major. All the reports I've read indicated that Sony wanted to continue with the agreement as is, while Disney wanted to start paying 50% of the production costs, and get 50% of the take, and Sony just walked away without any counter offer. Considering that Sony has zero difficulty finding the financing for any Spider-Man film, this is clearly just Disney trying to find an excuse to get half the sales revenue. If Sony makes a counter offer of almost any sort that gives Marvel Studios a token victory, Disney should grab it.

If that's true, then Disney are a bunch of idiots. A 30% cut is more generous than I would be willing to go if I were in Sony's place.

It's starting to look more and more as though Sony had no intention to renew with Marvel Studios, once it became clear that they could make financially successful movies like Venom, as well as critically acclaimed movies like Into the Spiderverse. The previously reported 70/30 offer that Sony made to Marvel, who supposedly rejected it appears to be a work of fiction. It's now being reported that Marvel made an offer of 75/25 to Sony six months ago, which Sony never responded to. Sony's announcement appears to have been carefully worded to give the impression that it was all Disney's fault, even though Sony had already decided to part ways.
What all the drama is ultimately boiling down to is that there will be no more negotiations. Spider-Man is out of the MCU, which is what Sony wants.

Obviously Disney had to back out and work with Sony. Disney has no one left thats remotely interesting in the avengers series.
You think people would come to see a Marvel movie with Captain Marvel Black Panther and low key heroes like Dr. Strange.
Shit Disney NEEDS Spider-man in the MCU or else it will fall apart.
Cap and Iron Man were the biggest reasons people showed up to see Avengers.
