Sir, where’s your video essay on Pixar’s role as Disney’s redhead stepchild?? Soul. Luca. Turning Red. Will Pixar ever again get a theatrical release?? And no, the goddamn Buzz Lightyear movie doesn’t count. Although, I will laugh if that gets pulled too. This does genuinely irritate me.

It must be super demoralizing to be a Pixar employee right now.

Doomsday SnoBorderZero Niladedeadline.com/2022/05/landmark-pico-to-close-1235021649/With the Hollywood Arclight already closed, now comes another blow to Los Angeles’ specialty cinema scene: The 12-screen Landmark Pico is closing at month’s end after 15 years, the chain said today. Landmark Theatres’ flagship venue, which has been a destination for countless Academy screenings since 2007 in addition to Deadline’s Screening Series over the years, will be shuttered when its lease expires May 31.

That’s a bummer, I saw lots of good movies there, Irishman particularly. It’s right down the street from Fox Studios (movies, not the news).

I don’t remember if it was exclusive to that chain. I also saw it at a Landmark, it wasn't an exclusive but they're basically the only chain of any size that's willing to work with Netflix.

I'm very upset about the Landmark closing. I live about 10-15 minutes from it and love that theater. It shows everything, and with the Arc Light gone it was sort of the last bastion for the all encompassing theater experience in LA.

Men is playing at the Landmark. Will likely be the last movie I see there.
Now for any of these limited release movies, I'm gonna have to shell out a fortune each time to go to the AMC Dine-in like I did for Titane last year.
Thank god theaters like the Aero are still functioning or things would really be fucked.

ALL movies (premium formats included) are $3 all day long at 3,000 theaters across the U.S on Saturday September 3rd. Join PG Cooper and friends to watch Dragonball Super: Super Hero for the 500th time. Catch a screening of Bullet Train with Bad Bunny fanboy Doomsday. SnoBorderZero invites you to watch Gigi & Nate with him and the newly single Florence Pugh. If you see Olivia Wilde, turn the other way. But best of all, 1godzillafan will be there for Jaws (1975) in 3D. He’ll have a Hulk like rage when he realizes it’s not Jaws 3-D.

Spiderman no way home will return to large format theaters that weekend.
Gotta think a 3 dollar top gun would fill more seats but hey I don't make the decisions.

I left on a week long road trip to Petaluma, CA to see my oldest nephew graduate last Saturday. On the way, I stopped by the Alamo Drafthouse locations in Lubbock, LA and San Francisco. On the way home, I went to the two locations in El Paso. Watched Beast (2022) in Lubbock. Got to see The Thing (1982) and Blade Runner (1982) in LA. Caught Conan The Barbarian (1982) in San Francisco. On the way back home, I watched The Road Warrior (1981) at the East El Paso, and Jurassic World: Dominion (2022) at the El Paso Montecillo location. The Lubbock location was pretty basic. Good location, but nothing to make it stand out. The LA location is at a fancy, one block shopping center full of exactly the sort of overpriced stores, restaurants, hair/nail salons, etc. that one would expect to find in LA, except that it's in the middle of Skid Row. Loads of fantastic old movie posters (particularly Italian knock-off movie posters), a bar area so large that it's got a stage for karaoke nights, and it's got a Video Vortex movie rental section. None of the North Texas locations have a Video Vortex, which I find infuriating. I meant to also visit The New Beverly (Quentin Tarantino's theater), but I forgot to bring my vaccination card with me, and they're not allowing anyone into the theater without one. The San Francisco location is a refurbished old theater in the middle of The Mission district that was originally built in 1916! Absolutely beautiful theaters, if unusually laid out by modern expectations. Plenty of old film posters (especially Bruce Lee & Bruce Lee knock-off posters), as well as a Video Vortex rental area. The Montecillo location in El Paso was another bone-basic location. Perfectly fine theater, but nothing to make it really stand out. The East El Paso location was simply amazing. The entire theater is Luchador film themed. The ceiling of the entrance is a giant mural, with another mural dividing the bar from the lobby. The bar is full of luchador masks, and the tables are covered with lobby cards for luchador films. The entire theater is full of old luchador film posters (with Santo being featured in about half of them). The entrance to The Big Show (the biggest theater in the building) is a giant luchador's mask. Even the restrooms had effort put into them, with comic book pages and covers used as wallpaper. Someone put a lot of love into this theater, and I applaud them.

Seeing Jaws tomorrow through the $3 promotion.
Though after service fees it came out to $5 and I felt misled.
