I mean this is insane. The soft power of Disney will dominate all theaters.

Yet more evidence that those in the halls of power have all been bought by the big corporations. If it's not broken, don't 'fix' it! This law was put into place for a reason.

Nothing is too big.
But Showcase Cinemas is already owned by the same company that owns ViacomCBS. Not like these types or arrangements are anything new.

Hmm, I wonder who may possibly want to take advantage of this?

Our city's only second-run theater is closing in May.

Our city's only second-run theater is closing in May. Sadly, the discount theaters are getting ever thinner on the ground. I don't know of any left in D/FW anymore. The last one I knew about closed not long after I saw X-Men: Days of Future Past there.

Our city's only second-run theater is closing in May. I mean, movies are having a hard enough time getting a first run in theaters...

We haven’t had a dollar-theatre in, like, 10 years. Maybe longer.

According to the article, "The Paris Theatre was opened in 1948 and began its story as a location in NYC that streamed French films." Apparently, the Paris Theatre was incredibly advanced for it's time. I was unaware of any theaters streaming movies in the twentieth century. The state of modern journalism is a disgrace. On the plus side, a classic old theater has been saved. That's never a bad thing.

Actually just lost two non profit indie theaters around town just today actually. Terribly run financially but they always got some decent art house stuff which I'm not sure will be replaced any time soon.

That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of, and your town had TWO of them?

There were at least 4 only a little while ago within a 15 mile radius of each other but this was two connected to a university and a part of an organization that received grants for the public arts etc. They closed one down a few months ago and I should have seen this coming.
8 bucks a movie. 2 buck drinks, 6 bucks corns, and 2 buck candy.

There's a reason concession food is over-priced.

Tickets are easily the cheapest part of the Alamo Drafthouse experience. They can probably make back their money by selling one hamburger.

Tickets are easily the cheapest part of the Alamo Drafthouse experience. They can probably make back their money by selling one hamburger. It really just depends on how you order, and how much you eat. If you each order a burger and a couple of beers each, it's going to get kinda pricey. If you split a pizza and drink ice water, not so much. The last time I went on a Saturday afternoon, we ordered cokes in the bar, which was half the price of ordering the same sodas in the theater. We were then able to take our cokes to the theater and get refills there at no additional cost. I've signed up for the subscription service beta test, but haven't been called so far. It hasn't been rolled out here yet, sadly. I go often enough for it to be well worth it.
