One note about the new Kamen Rider Zero-One Blu-ray set, I had been hearing from several folks that the subtitles on this set are "burned," which means they're apart of the image and cannot be turned off. I can confirm that's true.
This is not a huge deal for me, since I was unlikely to watch the series without subs. However I do feel like an option should be available. I know several toku fans who speak Japanese and probably wouldn't want words blocking the image, while those who are more fluent in other languages other than English may prefer other languages as sub options (this is a bit of a rarity in the toku market, but it would be nice).
But I imagine this was done as a measure for Toei to fight importing, that way Japanese locals will by their box sets instead of a cheaper US release. If they can't turn the subtitles off then they would probably be less inclined to buy ours.
It kinda sucks, but I get it. And I'm glad I have the set even with that imperfection.

Stan Winston's Godzilla concept model for the scrapped 1996 Jan De Bont film is getting an action figure.

Ignore above post. Apparently that was an elaborate hoax.
But this week we're getting a new Ultraman blu-ray, entitled Ultraman Zero: The Chronicle. This is likely the most skipable Ultra release from Mill Creek so far though, because this series is what is called a "biography series," which basically means it's an entire series of clip show. In the case of Ultraman Zero he is a character that never had his own series and the series appears to be mostly comprised of footage of his guest appearances and movies centering around the character, most of which has already been released. The sole exception is the microseries Ultraman Zero Fight, which is seemingly only seeing US release as a part of this series.
New Ultraman discs will also come out in March, so don't be too glum about this release, just buyer beware. We will be seeing the complete series of Ultraseven X on DVD (apparently the series was filmed in HD but doesn't have a Blu-ray release in Japan so we weren't allowed to have one) and a Blu-ray singular of Superior Ultra 8 Brothers, which is one of the most popular Ultraman films. After that, Mill Creek is looking to finish up their Ultraman license this year with only a handful of titles left, so stay tuned to see if they renew for newer shows.

Akira Takarada, who played the young male lead of Ogata in the original Godzilla, has passed away at the age of 87. He also had roles in Godzilla vs. Mothra, Godzilla vs. Monster Zero, Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster, Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth, Godzilla: Final Wars, and filmed a cameo in Godzilla 2014 but was cut out of the film. Other toku films in his filmography include Half Human, King Kong Escapes, and Latitude Zero.

Just as April brings us the slightly delayed Superior 8 Ultra Brothers and Ultraseven X, while Ultraman Mebius is scheduled for May, the next Ultraman releases have been announced for June: Ulraman Kids 3000 and a double feature of the Ultraman Zearth films. Both are listed as DVD, but it's possible that Zearth is actually a Blu-ray as Ultraseven X turned out to be a misprint and high definition materials were available for it.
Ultraman Kids 3000 seems to be relatively obscure in the Ultra community as very few fans seem to know much about it. Apparently it's a animated show targeted at young children from the 80's that spun off of a movie, but very few fans in the US seem to have actually seen it let alone a subtitled copy of it. It will be interesting to gage fan reaction on that one, but I assume disinterest.
Ultraman Zearth however is a pair of parody movies that were made for Ultraman's 30th anniversary as Tsuburaya were prepping the launch of Ultraman Tiga on TV to push the series back into the limelight. I'm curious about those.
And with those all Mill Creek has left on their contract are Neos, Cosmos, Nexus, Max, and their accompanying films, unless they want to release the bundled films on DVD sets on blu-ray. After that it's a waiting game to see if this merchandising push paid off and they'll release the newest Ultra shows of Taiga, Z, and Trigger on blu-ray. I've got my fingers crossed.

John Carpenter’s Godzilla? Since it's Fangoria, I'm assuming they have some sort of reflection from Carpenter of at least the first flick coming up.

I watched Shin Ultraman (2022) last night. It was a bit disappointing, to be honest. It started out strong, but quickly fell apart. Maybe Shin Godzilla (2016) simply set the bar too high for other Japanese series to match? I hope Shin Kamen Rider (2023) is better.

Has anyone else tried out the Godzilla Channel on Pluto TV? I watch the Pluto TV MST3K Channel regularly, and the commercial breaks aren't that big a deal. On the Godzilla Channel, there is more time spent on commercials than on the bloody movie! When I first tuned in, it was commercials. I came back a couple minutes later, it's still commercials. Another couple minutes, and it's still commercials. I decided to stop popping back and forth between web pages and just stay on Pluto TV. The commercials are constant, and the duration random. At one point, after a commercial break ended I got literally about ONE MINUTE of movie before another commercial break started. This is not hyperbole. ONE MINUTE! At that point, I decided it was time to try the stopwatch function on my phone. When the commercials ended, it was exactly seven minutes of movie. Another two minutes and fifteen seconds of commercials next. At that point, I'd had enough.
