Still 50 million away. Not sure avatar is gonna get dethroned. Unless there's a big push for more showings when spiderman releases. Maybe Oscar rerelease?

Now that Disney owns Avatar too they might have some interest in preserving the older record and giving Avatar something to brag about leading into the sequels.

Long movie obviously needed to be longer.

Yeah, fuck this movie. Someone tell me what the scene(s) are. Most likely a tribute to Stan Lee that’ll play after the credits. Back in April, Kevin Feige said they had assembled behind-the-scenes footage from all the Stan Lee cameos and were putting it on the blu-ray. The blu-ray, by the way, is coming out in August.

Feige wants Marvel Studios in the top spot, and Disney wants Feige to be happy.

I had today off, and decided to check out the re-release. The new post-credits scenes are not scattered throughout the credits. You'll have to wait until the very end. We get a tribute to Stan Lee's various cameos, a Hulk scene that was cut because it didn't do anything to move the plot forward that had unfinished visual FX, and a clip from Spider-Man: Far From Home.
It was very underwhelming. The Stan Lee tribute was cobbled together from footage that can be found in the DVD extras of previously released movies. I suspect word of mouth will not be kind.

The fact they suckered people into thinking this was a “re-release” is evidence this was destined to be a disappointment.

I've lost track of how many articles I've seen in my news feed with titles along the lines of "Endgame Fails To Beat Avatar" over the past two weeks. I suppose that's what click bait does, though. Despite the various click bait articles, Avengers: Endgame is now only $15.5 million away from the top spot.
In the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter, of course. It matters to me because I'm a Gen-Xer who grew up reading Starlog magazine articles about comic book movies that never came to pass in the 80's, and Wizard magazine's Comics 2 Film page in the 90's, which was even more packed with unfulfilled promises of superheroes bound for the silver screen. Endgame will become King of the Hill sometime in the next few weeks. This will make Kevin Feige and the other folks at Marvel Studios who've worked so hard over the past decade very happy. It will maintain that spot until Avatar gets re-released in theaters prior to Avatar II: The Quest for Another Tree. Considering how many more movie theaters are in China these days, compared to 2009, Avatar may actually break $3 billion with it's re-release. This will make James Cameron happy. All of it will make the accountants at Disney happy. Very, very happy.

Avengers: Endgame is now the largest grossing movie of all time. Congratulations Marvel Studios. You certainly worked hard enough to have earned it.
