The list is made, I'll get to the list but first an explanation. I took all the top ten lists and gave points for each movie on each list. Putting a movie at # one on a list gave it ten points, #2 gave it 9 points and so on down to #10 which gives it a mere one. The more points the higher on the big list.
so without further ado here's the list
(all summaries are plagiarized from various people at IMDB.com)
10. Blackkklansman (27 Points)
Ron Stallworth, an African American police officer from Colorado Springs, CO, successfully manages to infiltrate the local Ku Klux Klan branch with the help of a Jewish surrogate who eventually becomes its leader. Based on actual events.
CS Voice: "Ever since Donald Trump was elected President, racist people have felt comfortable openly coming out as KKK and Nazi's and antagonizing everyone. It's obviously an issue that we, as a society, must address and try to fix, but Spike Lee is like fuck this, arm yo kids, Civil War 2 comin'. Let me get my double dolly!
" -
Neverending 9. Black Panther (32 Points)
T'Challa, heir to the hidden but advanced kingdom of Wakanda, must step forward to lead his people into a new future and must confront a challenger from his country's past.
CS Voice: "Cool mythology, Villain has cool backstory, but yet again marvel does the 'just a villain version of the hero...' Neat visuals" -
IanTheCool 8. Hereditary (35 Points)
After the family matriarch passes away, a grieving family is haunted by tragic and disturbing occurrences, and begin to unravel dark secrets.
CS Voice: "Collette absolutely deserves a nomination for this. There is a scene halfway to two thirds through the movie where you see her swing all over the spectrum in a moment, it's a tour de force. The camerawork and set design... is another highlight. It's a masterpiece in blocking." -
thebtskink 7. Annihilation (37 Points)A biologist signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition into a mysterious zone where the laws of nature don't apply.
CS Voice: "To be blunt, Annihilation is fucking awesome... The film is both a highly engaging and intellectual piece of science-fiction, but Annihilation might work even better as a visceral cinematic experience, with some stunning visuals, incredible set-pieces, and an amazing score. I'm kind of amazed we get to see a large budget science-fiction film that's this heavy, this ambiguous, and this dark." -
PG Cooper 6. If Beale Street Could Talk (42 Points)
A woman in Harlem embraces her pregnancy while she and her family struggle to prove her fiancé innocent of a crime.
CS Voice: "Sometimes movies can trip all over themselves when they try to combine a story with a message. Often it's too heavy handed and in your face, other times something is briefly mentioned and feels superficial and tacked on. If Beale Street Could Talk doesn't come hard and fast with themes of racism, it's mentioned when need be until it becomes more of a focal point." -
Doomsday 5. Ready Player One (45 Points)
When the creator of a virtual reality world called the OASIS dies, he releases a video in which he challenges all OASIS users to find his Easter Egg, which will give the finder his fortune.
CS Voice: "This certainly isn’t a Spielberg classic and I still have trouble really thinking about it as one of his films, but for what it is and what it wants to be I think it’s pretty successful. I certainly had a lot of fun with it anyway." -
Dracula 4. Roma (47 Points)
A year in the life of a middle-class family's maid in Mexico City in the early 1970s.
CS Voice: "This was truly a beautiful movie. It's my front runner for the artsy pic of the year. There were a good three scenes I was just floored by. The crib shopping into the hospital then that final beach scene. Cuaron will have more hardware this year without a doubt." -
frankyt 3. A Star is Born (49 Points)
A musician helps a young singer find fame, even as age and alcoholism send his own career into a downward spiral.
CS Voice: "One of the best movies of the year, as well as the strongest directorial debut I've seen in a while. It may hit some familiar plot points, but damn if it doesn't do so with such grace and effectiveness. Bradley Cooper astounds both in front of and behind the camera. He gives another stellar performance while also proving his immense worth as a director, and the chemistry he has with Lady Gaga is just something else... The title of this movie couldn't be more accurate, in more ways than one." -
PhantomKnight 2. Mission Impossible Fallout (61 Points)
Ethan Hunt and his IMF team, along with some familiar allies, race against time after a mission gone wrong.
CS Voice: "I liked Fallout quite a bit. The first half felt more like a Bond movie than M:I, but that second half was total hold onto your seat shit right there. The IMAX scene is worth the ticket too.
"
1godzillafan 1. Avengers: Infinity War (78 Points)
The Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.
CS Voices:
"This might actually be the best Marvel Universe movie. That’s high praise coming from me. This would be like Doomsday loving a Christopher Nolan movie. I’ve enjoyed all the Marvel Universe movies but I can’t really say I loved any of them... until now." -
Neverending "For me, it's the first high profile, highly marketed, big franchise release that has really delivered. Moreso than the new Star Wars, moreso than other Marvel movies, throw in Jurassic Worlds or whatever else there is to consider. Infinity War just hit it out of the park." -
Doomsday "The BEST Marvel movie yet! Wow. So, is this what it felt like for people in the 80's coming out of Empire Strikes Back? To quote the film's villain Thanos, everything was "perfectly balanced": the action, the humor, the pacing, the drama (ohh, the drama)." -
PhantomKnight "All in all the movie plays out exactly as most audiences are expecting it to play out in grand entertaining fashion… and then everybody dies... it is maybe worth taking a couple steps back and considering how that played to the vast majority of the millions of people who are going to see this thing... In particular I wonder how the children in the audience would react to seeing the bad guy win and kill a bunch of their heroes. Is that going to be traumatic to them? I certainly hope so." -
Dracula "I liked it a lot. I'm in fact kind of stunned by how good this was. I was really worried that the whole thing would be a giant clusterfuck, but by god the Russos managed to balance a ton of different characters and story beats while also giving basically everyone a moment to shine. Shit, even War Machine has some fun moments." -
PG Cooper "I liked it!" -
thebtskink "Pretty awesome. At the very beginning when thanos was first revealed I was a bit nervous he would be a little too hokey and the cgi wouldn't quite hold out. But it delivered for sure." -
