I've had potential employers flat out tell me that they were going to give me a call to set up an interview...and never call. I applied to a store for Management. I had an interview, and it went really well. The interviewer was impressed with my experience, and said that she would pass my app and resume to her DM, who would give me a call to set up the next interview within then next couple of days. I never heard from anyone again. Either she lied and never sent my info up, or the DM looked at my info and went..."nah." Getting a management job as a outsider can be tough cause you're competing with people within the company that have already established working relationships with those in charge. You might have to settle for something right below and network until the next opening is available. Also, you can turn your past experiences into something new. You don't have to apply to the same type of jobs. You can take your military experience and try to get a security job. You can take your facility manager job and try to get a government job. You can try the water & sewer department or the power plant or sanitation or something like that.

I would have called them if they told me they were going to call me back. Maybe giving it an extra day or two beyond when I should have heard from them. Sometimes that little extra push is what gets the ball rolling, or at least finding out why they didn't end up going with you, which could be beneficial for future interviews. Either way, it would bug me too much not knowing what happened.
And this isn't only hypotheticals. I've had times where a job was supposed to get back to me and they didn't, and of course I naturally began to think "Damn, maybe they decided not go with me". After a call back to get an update, they asked me to come back in for another interview, or there was some additional paperwork they were needing. Worse yet, some jobs may even want to see who puts in the initiative of getting back in touch with them.

I ran into someone I used to work with, and apparently three months later, they still haven't been able to replace me. That put a little smile on my face. Fuck 'em.

Hey assholes, if you're going to go through the trouble to have me come in for an interview, then maybe go the trouble of at least glancing at my application and resume before I arrive.

I'm not dead yet, which is a good thing, because funerals are expensive.

So, it looks like I can add another name to the list of "companies that won't call me back," even though I was specifically told they would contact me one way or another this week. God, this is so depressing.

God, this is so depressing. I think you may have answered this before but are you mainly looking at retail? I'll tell you from personal experience, I went to a temp agency because I needed a job plain and simple. They put me in a position 'temporarily' but almost instantly made me full time with benefits because I can breathe with my mouth closed and can speak in complete sentences. I ended up working there for four years. I know several people who've had similar experiences. Granted, there are some people with terrible experiences as well but I can tell you that sometimes it works out pretty well. Not to say my job was good, it was pretty stupid but it got the bills paid and I could put some money in the bank. Just a thought.

While I have applied to a few retail places, mainly because of a majority of my long term experience was working for retail, it hasn't been the only thing. I don't really want to work retail any more, and have been trying to expand my job search as much as possible. However, I have gone to pretty much every temp agency in town (we have 10 or 15 at least), and only one of them found me a job, and it lasted only three weeks. Hell, I've even applied for fast food because I'm pretty fucking desperate at this point and even those aren't panning out.

I'm sure he has applied for management, but it's difficult for an outsider to compete with an insider. If temp jobs haven't worked out, I'd suggest a government job. With your military background, there are various options.

Sometimes with temp jobs you have to keep after them to find you work in the beginning. That's been my experience.

Keep plugging away at it, Frizzo. I know how aggravating searching week after week can get. Keep the word out to friends and family, and even put your name in at places that may not even be hiring right now. You can never tell when one stop may lead to someone mentioning another place you hadn't even thought about.

Well, ive been home three days, and so far my sister has my coffee grinder and didn't bring it back and all I have is three bags of whole bean.
I looked for my plunger and have no idea where it went. Yay
And I have no phone service and everyone is playing tag to get a hold of me for home care.

Good to be home though

Just bought a 65" OLED with 4K/HDR TV and it is awesome. Also bought an Xbox One S for its UHD 4K capabilities, that it also plays video games will be a cool fringe benefit.

People would be less anti-commercials if commercials were still awesome.

I'm highly impressed with the Kingsglaive movie. Wish I watched it before I started playing Final Fantasy XV, explains quite a lot.
