Ambulance ride was interesting - lots of nice people. I can't believe a Cop and 6 other people showed up lol. Just for a non-emergency ride to the hospital

My mom called to tell me that she's watching Jim Carrey on television and that he's gotten super old. I said, "yeah... I know." And then she tells me to watch Jim Carrey on television so I can see how old he looks, obviously ignoring what I just told her. But whatever, I turn the channel to Jim Carrey... and it's Kevin Bacon. I need to file this under the "my mom is old" folder. MOTHER: Jim Carrey has gotten SO OLD. Me: Mother, that's KEVIN BACON.

Couple more days fixin to head to Disney World, really not looking forward to the crowds, lines, and over priced merchandise. Ill be in the same boat at the end of the month. Do you have any fast pass's? Dont think its as bad with fast pass but could be wrong. Only park we could get fast pass's for was Animal Kingdom, and they worked out great. They allow you to pick what rides you want to go on at the times they have available. As long as you plan your timing out right they work out good. I don't know if you've ever been to Disney World before but another tip if you want to save some money, take a book bag and thrown some water and snacks in it. They allow them in and it will save you a good chunk of change.

Harper Lee's novel "Go Set a Watchman" was released today, and it's selling big time. Anyone interested in reading it? The controversy around Atticus Finch is interesting, I might give it a read even though initial reviews have been lukewarm.

I want to check it out. But I really need to reread To Kill a Mockingbird first, its been a good 10 11 years since I read it.

I was at Barnes and Noble a couple of days ago and overhead a young couple talking and neither knew what the big deal was about To Kill A Mockingbird. She seriously thought it was an author trying to make a quick buck on the Hunger Games series. Is this not a book that is required reading in school anymore?

You should have told them to watch the movie if they didn't have time to read the classic book

Hahaha, that's sad yet hilarious at the same time. "That Harper Lee just trying to cash in on Jennifer Lawrence, shame on her!" It's amazing how stupid some people are in this world. Yeah, I mean I know I had to read it in high school and I always figured that was one of those books like The Great Gatsby and Catcher in the Rye that you literally couldn't avoid no matter where you went to school.

Not even Gatsby? That's the one I feel everyone has to read at some point.

I had To Kill a Mockingbird and Catcher in the Rye, but not Gatsby. Some of my friends and other classes had to, but not me.

In my province's curricula the teacher's have some choice of novels to select from, with similar themes,e tc. But most choose the classics anyway.

Yeah, schools/teachers have an option from a list. I read The Great Gatsby but not To Kill a Mockingbird and Catcher in the Rye. I read a SHITLOAD of Shakespeare, Lord of the Flies, Eli Wiesel's Night, 1984 and Brave New World, and Beowulf. I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but those are the ones that immediately come to my head. I didn't read any of those in school. That's because you went to high school before those books existed.

At work on Tuesday, before the store opened, two of our managers were overheard on the walkie:
1: "I got a message here that says to check and see how many of the Harper Lee book we have." 2. "Harper Lee? Is that the author or the name of the book?" 1: "I don't know. It just says 'Harper Lee."
Me: "Its the name of the author!"
Keep in mind that these are both people who have attended college. It was hard for me to keep in how furious I was. Hell, my daughter's middle name is Harper. I wanted to shake them both so badly.

I never read any of those classics for school purposes... I can't tell you what we were forced to read though. Lord of the Flies sure but I'm drawing a blank on the others. I've read many of the classics but not To Kill A Mockingbird, I know the story (and only now because of the new release, the name Harper Lee), have never seen the movie though either.

I feel like in high school we read a lot, we were just constantly reading novels which was good and bad. We read The Great Gatsby, 1984, Beloved, The Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird, Ender's Game, Ethan Frome (ugh, worst novel ever), Pride and Prejudice, Lord of the Flies, Beowulf, and a good amount of Shakespeare, namely Hamlet. Lots of novels, lots of essay writing, that was pretty much how my AP English classes went, just total grinds.

Lots of novels, lots of essay writing, that was pretty much how my AP English classes went, just total grinds. Same here. Why did you single out Hamlet? Romeo & Juliet, for me, was the biggest one. Not only did we read the play, but we had to watch the Zeffirelli movie (which had boobs in it) and the Leo DiCaprio movie and compare the two. I'm trying to remember all the Shakespeare shit I read and watched in high school. I think it was... Romeo & Juliet (and we watched the Zeffirelli movie and the Leo DiCaprio movie) A Midsummer Night's Dream (and we watched the Michelle Pfeiffer movie) Twelfth Night (and we watched the Helena Bonham Carter movie) Henry V (and we watched the Kenneth Branagh movie) Hamlet (and we watched the Mel Gibson movie) Othello (and we watched a silent movie era version of Othello with a white guy in black face and that movie "O" which was surprisingly good) There's more, but that's what's popping into my head right now.

Yes! I read that too. The teacher made the class read that before Beowulf.

Ender's Game has been handed out in schools? Yeah, I read it freshman year. I thought it was pretty neat we were reading it, I was surprised we were in the first place.
