What's on Your Mind: A New Journey

Saw Kevin Costner last night at a screening of one of his films.  Not a bad evening overall, talked about his films and the state of film for a little while.

He's glad to be working again.

For him, it is. 

Ugh. I just woke up from a 3 hour food coma.

Nothing new or different.  He stated that people focus so much on first weekend box office that movies are being tailor made to make $100 million in the first weekend then forgotten about when the real standard of a movie is how it is perceived over time, whether you'll pull it off the shelf and watch it with your kids years from now.  I don't disagree.

Movie attendance has been low throughout the entire 21st century, with 2014 hitting an all-time low, so I don't think box office really matters anymore. What matters is what people watch on television, whether it be through cable or streaming or Blu-Ray.

Again, props to whoever writes the news feed at the top. That stuff is gold.

Also finally saw Thor: The Dark World last night. While not exactly original in presentation, and some questionable character choices....not the worst movie in the MCU.

Ok, so there was this college freshman who was off on her own for the first time. She decides to go out to Hannaford Supermarket to buy some food and things, and she's in there shopping for a while looking for bargains. When it comes time to check out, she makes her purchases and walks outside to her car, and discovers it's snowing really hard. So after putting her stuff away and clearing off her car, she remembers some great advice her father told her, "If you get caught out in a snowstorm, all you need to do is find a snow plow and follow it for safety."

Just then she sees a snow plow and catches up to it, following it through all the twists and turns. After a while the plow stops, and the driver gets out and walks back to her car, signaling her to roll down the window - and he says,

But most importantly, you should be sufficiently creeped out.

Except for the fact that it's just a 1,000,000,000 to 1 coincidence that Jane is the one who happens to stumble on the dark matter, which is loosely connected to Thor.
