Ever since the start of the pandemic, I've wondered in the back of my mind if it would ever claim someone in my family. And this past weekend, it did.
Last month, my Godmother and her husband and two sons contracted Covid. They were all unvaccinated except for the oldest son, who got his first shot primarily because he moved up to New York to work in the theatre industry. But it hit my Godmother worst of all, primarily because of underlying issues such as asthma and her weight. So, the past few weeks had been very rough for her, with her needing to be on a ventilator practically the whole time. And the news coming out of the hospital had been consistently not good. She had a really rough day this past Friday...before ultimately dying from the impact of Covid on her early Saturday morning.
I'm holding up mostly okay, but...part of it still doesn't feel real. Maybe it's partly because I'd been sort of bracing for it these past few weeks/coming to peace with the reality of it all, but to think that my Godmother, who was so full of live and energy and the source of so much happiness within our family is now gone...
Anyway. Been dealing with that the past few days. But I'll be okay.

I'm sorry man. Wishing you the best through this. Losses in the pandemic are the worst. I hope you have the option to take some time off if need be.

Covid took my father last year. From one family affected to another, you have my deepest condolences. It's not going to stop hurting, but I wish you the best with the pain you'll be carrying.

Sorry to hear about that phantom, hope it convinces the rest of your family that are not vaxxed to go ahead and get the shots already.
Completely preventable deaths I just can't wrap my head around. It's been almost a year with the vaccine. What more evidence do they need? How many loved ones do you have to lose?

The wake is tomorrow evening and the funeral Friday morning and I know for a fact two other unvaccinated family members are coming. I...definitely have my opinions, but I really hope the whole vaccine/non-vaccine issue doesn't come up at all. Even considering the circumstances. We're gonna have enough to deal with.

Looks like my work is about to enact a vaccination policy. Either provide proof of vaccination, or submit to weekly tests. Its going to cause an uproar in my department.

Thanks. The funeral was yesterday and already, it feels like I can start getting to a place with it where even though I don't like it (and never will), I can deal with it better. In a way, as is always the case ultimately, the funeral was therapeutic.

Sorry to hear about that Phantom. Hope you're doing okay today and that the funeral, while always difficult, allowed you and your family to connect and reflect on the great moments you all shared with her.
Funerals can at times be the only opportunities we have to see certain family members, which is odd but sort of makes sense with all of our lives in different directions. So at times they're a sort of bittersweet reunion that can help us heal in the unexpected ways of reconnecting with family. Hoping this week is a better one.

Got an interesting call this morning from the Ontario Provincial Police. My wife had warned me of it on my way into work. I absent-minded stopped and then continued on my way instead of staying stopped for a school bus pick up. Very stupid and air headed of me buy I get these questions from the cop, who was a decent guy, asking if I blew through the stop. Again, fully admit I should have stayed stopped but I just had a blank moment It was literally my stopping at top of our roads intersection, so my facing West, bus is coming down going South and stops at the same intersection. I stop at the stop sign, notice the bus, see the kids have crossed, look left and right and then turn right. Halfway to work and my wife said a neigh our told her I enraged the bus driver and another mom and they called the police on me. I take full responsibility for my gaffe and told the officer such and he let me off with a Warning, I take issue with the blowing through bus stop accusation as if I was a crazy driver.
Anyway, will try and apologize to the mother, it's her kids and their safety that worries her and I don't want to add any more stress to people's lives. Just sucka to be thought of the neighbor asshole who drives recklessly when that's completely false.

docstop, I did this recently, entirely absentmindedly and for the first time at 37 years old In my defense it was a Plymouth Prowler with a non flashing top bar, and I gave it a wide berth at like 10 mph. I still got shouted down by an older gentleman stopped coming the other direction. I can't believe you got called at home.

Yeah, usually those complaints are best left to NextDoor where people complain about things like that, overgrown lawns, people parked too far from the curb and other highly important issues. Can't believe the cops actually hit you up.
