Well... congrats to the staff. That's extra money in your pockets. Fanible and his bride can put that cash in savings account and invest in the future. Frizzo can buy a few extra diapers now. And JBond can finally take Knerys on a date.

As long as they don't have sound and don't expand when I accidently scroll over them, I've got no problem with it.

Heh...I wish we were making money off of this. I know I could certainly use it. In fact, I'm taking donations, if anyone is interested!

Heh, you think we're making money off of this? There's three ads on every page. SOMEONE is making money.

I gotta say, if you're serious about complaining, you're making me a little sick. We've created a new message board while the other is being demolished, everyone's feeling pretty good about it, and you're crying about the mods in this to make money. What you haven't seen is the long discussion we've all been having about the ads and who's going to pay to get rid of them. (News flash: everyone wants to chip in). I'm so very sorry we haven't quite figured everything out yet, like deciding if the ads are really that bad, but I think I know who to volunteer to pay the first month.

Well... if the ads bring Google Bots and opens the door for new people to discover the site, then I suggest you let the ads remain.

I already paid to remove the ads for the board. I forgot to activate it when our free period ended. Sorry, I'm in the middle of last minute updates/changes for my wedding and haven't been able to get online.
Google bots already frequent these boards to update Google searches.
If ads are ever on these boards, it's to pay the server provider, unless of course we pay them ourselves.

Google bots already frequent these boards to update Google searches. We need WAY more people and WAY more activity if we're ever gonna be on Google's radar. But don't worry. We'll get there.

Erm, maybe you need to reread what you quoted. It's a search engine, not some special VIP site listing. I already setup a search engine header in the html code, and both Google and MSN (aka Bing) bots have been through here multiple times to update. There's one on here as I'm posting this. And I like how you ignored all the rest of my post. You're welcome. We may open a PayPal donation here at some point for those who would like to do so. Maybe adding some kind of donations 'thank you' notifier to attach to accounts that do. It would not need to be much if we decided to, though. For the time being we have it covered.

I only notice one ad at the bottom of the pages. Right now mine is a small 250x250 square advertising SAP and analytics tools. You all now know what I'm searching for in my work life.
I couldn't care less about it. Good job guys.

Quick fix that cost no money, use Firefox/Chrome and use the adblock addon. I havent seen ads on a website in so long unless I disable it for some reason or another.

Like I said, if the ads can benefit us, like getting more Google exposure, then I support them. Fanible claims that Google Bots are already roaming around here, but if activity is low, then we're gonna be like on page 1,000 of Google searches. This is why CS! is shutting down the forums. Traffic to the forums was incredibly low. So we should try to avoid that mistake again.

I kind of think ad-block is a destructive feature in many ways. Annoying as they can be, ads support a lot of the fun stuff we get on the internet and they're kind of a necessary evil. Using ad block does hurt various website's bottom lines. Quick fix that cost no money, use Firefox/Chrome and use the adblock addon. I'd love to get some new blood here if they're intelligent and talkative, but it's not like this new forum is a subsidiary of a website like comingsoon.net which has other business goals. Shouldn't we be safe as long as the Proboards infrastructure is in place?

Shouldn't we be safe as long as the Proboards infrastructure is in place? I don't know. Right now, things are okay because people are actually showing up. But what about in 6 months when things get back to normal and no one is posting anything for 20 hours a day. Duke-Leto already warned us that these free message boards delete inactive forums.

No I asked if this forum did that because some of the free forums do. Plus I doubt this place will die, there are too many of us needing this place. It might get slow in the same way CS did but there will always be a core group and the part timers to keep things going.

I do think that, if we want to stay alive in the long run, we are going to need to find a way to keep the forums active. That means getting bringing in new blood and keeping them around. I also think that means we need to find some way to carve our our own niche so that people will want to gravitate here when they're looking for a forum to go to. Before, we had the benefit of being maintained by and affiliated with a larger media outlet. No so here. So, what is it about us, if anything, that are going to make people want to become a part of our community over any other place they could go?
