Didn't get to watch it, unfortunately. Was stuck at work. I wouldn't be surprised if it winds up on the official MST3K YouTube channel, but you didn't miss much. Edit- that didn't take long

Welcome to what could be the very last May the 4th ever as Disney tries to trademark a hashtag and control all of our opinions on their latest worthless lump of a Star Wars sequel. MST3K, Rifftrax, and Beyond's annual May the 4th post is here with the Rifftrax of the epic fail feature The Rise of Skywalker! And since Star Wars is being discussed, someone out there is bound to be pissed about something (be it Jar Jar Binks or The Last Jedi). Our latest BONUS SHORT will help you with that. It's Don't Get Angry! "That's my secret, Captain. I'm always angry.

Also, heads up because mst3kstore.com is having a half off sale through the 15th. And when I say half off, I mean half off the listed price, not the SRP. So if the price says they've marked a box set down to $36, it's actually $18.
If you're behind on box sets, now is the time to catch up!

Last week's List Drive-In double feature is already behind us, but that doesn't mean I can't review the week before! Which starts us off with one of the more disturbing serial killer movies of the 80's, Maniac! Follow that up with same valley girl death and mayhem. Joe Bob sits us down with a little detour in the Winona Ryder/Christian Slater vehicle, Heathers! Reviews of this week's The Last Drive-In are still in the works (I've watched Brain Damage, but still need to start Deep Red), but hopefully I'll have them up by Friday! Stay tuned MSTies and Mutant Fam!

Sad news today as we lost Fred Willard.
He may also be the first Rifftrax riffer to reach that big theater in the sky, as he was a guest riffer on Missile to the Moon in 2007. Sadly his contribution doesn't seem to be available on the site anymore. Though it seems to be for free on Tubi and for purchase on Amazon.
Maybe I'll watch it this week in his honor.

R.I.P. Not familiar with his work for Rifftrax, but I do know his scenes in Best in Show are gutbustingly funny.

I'll always remember him for his roles on sitcoms like Everybody Loves Raymond, Back To You and most notably as Phil's dad on Modern Family. The guy was just so naturally funny. He'll be missed.

Prepping for tonight's Last Drive-In? How about a reminder of last week's! The first one was Troma's blood and pus stained masterpiece, Troma's War, with special guest host Lloyd Kaufman! After that, brace yourself for what may be one of my favorite movies ever shown by Joe Bob and definitely one of the biggest surprises on the show. Joe Bob's on his soapbox for the outstanding One Cut of the Dead! Sorry I couldn't get the week prior up, as I still haven't watched Deep Red. But I'll be tuned in for tonight's run with Joe Bob, and hope you will too!

I ordered the rerelease sets I didn't own yet. I haven't received a shipping notice, but I used Amazon Pay and didn't anticipate one. So far the only person I've heard from who has received anything they ordered is someone on another board who received their blu-ray copy of season 12 and nothing else. Though, I was actually talking to someone from Shout's customer service team before the sale started about the replacement disc for the Volume 11 set, and one thing they stressed to me is that during the COVID crisis they don't have proper access to their offices and there are certain items they can't get to, so I'm not surprised about shipping delays. Whether or not they should have had a sale like this in the middle of a pandemic if that was the case is up to interpretation. Luckily all the stuff I ordered I already had on Rhino discs, I was just seeking out the bonus content and hoping to retire collector's packages.

I've got a combination of Rhino and Shout! Factory as well, but I don't have any plans to replace the Rhino stuff just to get a bit of bonus content. I am however, planning to retire all of the old packaging and replace it with all new cases that don't take up an entire row of shelves.

WyldstaarIt's been three and a half weeks, finally got a shipping notice. Knowing Shout, it'll probably be another week to receive it.

My MST discs arrived today. I have pretty much the entire Shout MST collection now, with the exception of the singles that weren't double dipped on Volume sets and The Lost and Found Collection, which just had repackaged discs.
The one last thing I need to buy before my MST disc collection is complete (for now, pending new episodes or a potential Volume 40) is the blu-ray of The Deadly Mantis that was released last year. The episode is still in standard, but the offer to have any MST on blu-ray is just too great.
Though it should be noted that I'm enough of an idiot/fanboy that I might double buy the Netflix seasons on DVD even though I have the blu-rays, just to say that I have them. Maybe even backlog VHS collecting too.

You know what, that last post got me thinking about MST VHS tapes, specifically on how I missed out on the Reptilicus tape on the Kickstarter because A) I didn't have the money and B) It would have probably been too much of a display piece for me to seriously consider it. Then I saw that they mimicked the Rhino VHS look and I was like "SHIT! I want one!" Just now I discovered that they're selling off Kickstarter overstock rewards here and the Reptilicus tape is 15 bucks (plus 8 shipping). Forgive me, but I had to have it. My MST VHS tapes were left at my dad's house after I moved out many, many years ago. Knowing him, he probably threw them out, but I wonder if they're still there. Now I just need 300 bucks for an Amazing Colossal Man tape.

I think this quarantine is getting to me more than I let on. Soon after making that post I checked eBay out of curiosity for VHS tapes of Amazing Colossal Man. Someone had one straight up for sale for $44.
Yes. I snatched it.
Here's the thing, as ridiculous as buying a VHS for 45 bucks may be, this is a pretty fair investment for me. The Reptilicus VHS is just something I'd put on a shelf and admire, but would never actually use. The VHS of Amazing Colossal Man is probably the best transfer of the episode you could find. Since this is long out of print from a company that no longer has the MST license, it's unlikely that Shout will ever sell this episode (they've recently confirmed that the rights holder refuses to work with them, and even recently sued them), and I have no intention of selling copies of it, I feel no guilt in maybe finding a way of digitizing this tape transfer and adding it into my own collection on a home made disc. Then I can put this tape right next to Reptilicus on my shelf.
I'd have to find the right equipment, but I think I can manage. But boy, did I spend more on video tapes today than I intended.

The rights holder of The Amazing Colossal Man is the widow of the guy who made the movie. As long as she's alive, nobody gets their hands on that movie. Once she's gone, it will be up to the heirs to decide whether they'd like to make money off the film, or follow her wishes.

Yep, that's Susan Hart. She also owns It Conquered the World, Terror from the Year 5000, I Was a Teenage Werewolf, and through some loophole on the screenplay she has legal rights to Attack of the The Eye Creatures. She won't budge on even releasing regular versions of the film. Meanwhile the Arkoff Estate, who owns the other half of the catalog that Hart tried to claim, is has a fruitful relationship with Shout, and they're even releasing War of the Colossal Beast on blu-ray in a few months.
The other absolute no-go's are Rocketship X-M, which is owned by Wade Williams, who has a good relationship with Shout but is very protective of this particular film, and the Godzilla films, which are of course Toho.
The three remaining Paramount films (Fire Maidens of Outer Space, The Deadly Bees, The Space Children) had a current deal with Olive Films which needed to expire before an MST deal could be negotiated. Nobody seems to know who owns Quest of the Delta Knights, and if Shout knows then they haven't struck a deal with them. But a Volume 40 seems likely with the remaining Paramount films one day, at least.

Just discovered another MST episode is hitting blu-ray this month. Scream Factory's blu-ray edition of The Spider will include the Earth vs. the Spider episode of the series. This will be the second Joel episode on blu-ray, following last year's Eegah.
Of course, all classic MST was filmed in standard definition, so it doesn't matter if it's on blu-ray.
Though I do wonder if there's a pattern to episode blu-rays as bonus features that I'm not seeing, because from my position it seems very herky jerky. They've released a number of MSTed films on blu-ray, but only select ones have an episode of the show. I have to wonder if it's a contract thing, where they ask the rights-owner if they can include it and they'd say "No," but then I look at discs of Mole People and Deadly Mantis, which included episodes, then look at their release of Leech Woman, which has the same distributor, and it doesn't. Maybe it's just something to throw in to beef up a bonus package, because Leech Woman seems to have more bonus content than the others, and then there is The Bat People, in which the bonuses are the MST episode and a trailer. That would have been a pretty nothing blu-ray without the episode.
At any rate, I'm cautiously optimistic that the War of the Colossal Beast blu-ray may have the episode, but it's not detailed so far, so who knows?
