That's unfortunate. It's quietly become a destination for a lot of good arthouse films and documentaries. Agreed, but I still just can't get past their interface. It's so difficult to know the extent of what's available on Hulu. I think it really hurts the platform, and perhaps Disney is indeed looking to phase it out and won't invest in cleaning it up.

That's a problem across streaming services... I kind of think they set them up that way intentionally to hide just how little content they actually have, though I think Hulu has kind of outgrown that. You definitely want to keep an eye on the "what's coming to hulu this month" articles because some primo shit gets dropped there pretty much without fanfare.

That remains to be seen. Lot of good licensed stuff on hulu that isn't on the Disney+ versions that exist in the countries with R-rated stuff. Those might be licensed to other streamers. Fox is still licensed to HBO and a lot of Disney stuff is licensed to Starz.

That's pretty much the only way I ever know what's on there. What you're saying makes sense though that they'd keep their full library somewhat out of sight so we don't realize how little it offers compared to Netflix and HBO, but I don't think Hulu is doing itself any favors either.

Either way their interface is still a billion times better than Amazon Prime, which is pretty much the most unpleasant consumer UI I've ever encountered.

It's amazing how bland Prime's interface is, like it's still in some sort of beta test that it won't move past. Admittedly though, I find myself watching a lot of movies through them. They surprisingly have a lot of classic and foreign films and even some lesser viewed or known entries from top directors. I've seen a lot of mid-tier Fellini, Billy Wilder, and others through Prime oddly enough.

The difference is that Prime also does streaming sales and rentals separate from their packaged service and their interface has to handle both. Because they ostensibly want every movie ever to be part of their rental service they make these mass deals that dump a million titles onto prime that they do nothing to curate or issue quality control towards.

It is funny because certain directors or movies will all get dumped on there at once, as if it's suddenly become William Wyler month (as it was a couple years ago on there) and 8 of his films are on there now. But to your point, the quality of some of the prints I've watched on there is appalling.

Or maybe they just got the rights to a library his stuff all happened to be in.

Not sure to be honest, but these movies do seem to come in waves. One month a lot of obscure Fellini movies were on there (Orchestra Rehearsal, Clowns) and another saw a flood of John Ford. There doesn't seem to be a real rhyme or reason for any of it, but the completionist in me is pleased.

Does anyone else have troubles with Criterion Channel not getting rid of movies you've watched out of your Currently Watching section?

On HBOMax you just need to click the "Continue Watching" category, then click edit, then click "x" on whatever you want removed.

Russian dolls season 2 is a shocking turn into absolute mediocrity. I'm not sure if I'll even finish it.

I'm not hip to Discovery+, what's the downside of the merger exactly? Will the content be different? Or is it just them jacking up their prices and forcing us to subscribe to shit we don't want?
