IT'S OFFICIAL! Stand-alone HBO Go will be available in 2015. If the price is right, bye-bye cable. Well... not really. But you get the point.

Agreed. Sharing my sister's HBO Go for a while definitely spoiled me on it, so I'm in for this.

I ditched cable several years ago. I have both the online and dvd (blu ray) netflix subscription. If it's not on Netflix, I don't watch it. I wouldn't necessarily say Netflix is the best choice (for me it is) but ditching cable (IMHO) is.

Redbox will raise its prices in December. It won't be dramatic, but as we learned from Netflix, this is the beginning of the end. Sorry, Doomsday. I know you're their biggest supporter.

If they follow the Netflix model, you'll be paying $2 in about a year or two and then they'll raise it to $4 by the end of the decade. When I joined Netflix, it was the last year they charged $5-a-month. Then they raised it to $7. Then 2011 rolls around and they do the whole separate price thing for DVD and streaming. And since Redbox is trying to get into the streaming business, you can tell that's their ultimate goal. Charge people double.

Their streaming business tanked, they already pulled the plug. I did a free trial a year or two ago and it blew ass. The main problem it had was that it was disingenuous to say the least. They advertised many movies they carried but ultimately you had to pay for most of them once you got down to it. I don't think I watched one thing on it, I cancelled after like 4 days.

Their streaming business tanked They did it in collaboration with Verizon and I read that Verizon was gonna give it another shot. So... I don't know... I guess we'll see what happens.

Netflix CEO says broadcast TV will be dead in 16 yearsNetflix CEO Reed Hastings explained how broadcast television will be another casualty of evolution. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hastings claimed “broadcast TV will probably last until 2030,” painting broadcast TV as “kind of like the horse, you know, the horse was good until we had the car.” www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/netflix-ceo-says-broadcast-tv-will-dead-16-years/

Reed Hastings might be just a tad biased.
Anyway, I'm not too interested in any of the Netflix titles coming in December. Some good movies in there, but I've already seen them. Those I haven't seen I really don't care about.

Go look at the movies they announce each month then compare it to the number that Netflix is removing. The latter is always about 5x more than the former.

Reed Hastings might be just a tad biased. He's right though... but not in the way he thinks. OnDemand is the future, not streaming.

Hulu + is offering a free month that I'm gonna take advantage of and plow through some Criterions I've never seen. Any recommendations?

I'd recommend just subscribing to Hulu. It's not expensive, and the Criterion selection is honestly worth the money.

Yeah and you don't get the commercials with their movies. Don't picture it as a Hulu Plus subscription, just imagine it as a Criterion subscription.
