1godzillafan thebtskink WyldstaarMale ‘Buffy’ stars back Charisma Carpenter, others alleging misconduct by Joss Whedon www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/story/2021-02-15/david-boreanaz-buffy-stars-support-charisma-carpenter-joss-whedon-claimsActor David Boreanaz, who famously played Angel on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” is the latest cast member to express support for former costar Charisma Carpenter, who alleged misconduct by series producer Joss Whedon. Carpenter, known for her breakout role as Buffy’s high school nemesis Cordelia Chase, accused Whedon of creating a hostile environment on set, which she alleged included retaliatory behavior and harassment during her pregnancy. “Joss Whedon abused his power on numerous occasions while working together on the sets of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and ‘Angel,’” wrote Carpenter last Wednesday in a Twitter thread. “The disturbing incidents triggered a chronic physical condition from which I still suffer. It is with a beating, heavy heart that I say I coped in isolation and, at times, destructively.” On Sunday, Boreanaz wrote a response to Carpenter’s tweet: “I am here for you to listen and support you. Proud of your strength.” “I know you’re there for me, David,” replied Carpenter. “I appreciate all you’ve done to demonstrate that support privately as well.” Carpenter initially shared her story in solidarity with actor Ray Fisher, who previously accused Whedon of “gross, abusive” behavior on the set of the 2017 superhero film “Justice League,” in which he portrayed DC Extended Universe character Cyborg. Carpenter also said she participated in WarnerMedia’s internal investigation of Whedon, as well as “Justice League” producers Geoff Johns and Jon Berg, which has since concluded. Johns was formerly DC Entertainment’s president and chief creative officer, while Berg was formerly Warner Bros.’ copresident of production. Both ended those roles as the company reevaluated its approach to DC films following the release of “Justice League.” Warner Bros., which competed its investigation in December, declined to comment beyond an earlier statement. “The investigation was conducted by an outside law firm and led by a former federal judge,” the studio said. “More than 80 people were interviewed. We have full confidence in its thoroughness and integrity, and remedial action has been taken.” A representative for Whedon declined to comment. Warner Bros. does not own either of Whedon’s TV series, which ran in the late 1990s and early 2000s. “Buffy” and “Angel” were owned and distributed by 20th Century Fox Television, now Disney. Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played the lead role in “Buffy,” responded to the allegations on her Instagram page, writing: “While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon.” Michelle Trachtenberg, who played Dawn Summers in the series, followed with her own statement against Whedon: “There was a rule. Saying. He’s not allowed in a room alone with Michelle again,” she wrote in the caption of an Instagram post. Former costar Amber Benson chimed in, stating, “Buffy was a toxic environment and it starts at the top.” On Saturday, Adam Busch, Tom Lenk and Danny Strong, who all played villains in Season 6 of “Buffy,” joined the ranks of supporters on Twitter. “I support Charisma, Sarah, Amber & Michelle,” wrote Busch. “I admire their courage and leadership. The truth is powerful and it prevails.”

If you'd asked me in 2017 who was going to be canceled first between Joss Whedon and Zack Snyder this is not how I would have seen things going.

I'm genuinely torn on this. I really don't want to watch this. Nevertheless, I'm drawn to it by a combination of morbid curiosity and an interest in bad movies. No doubt, there's a hefty dose of schadenfreude mixed in there as well. I'll probably watch it, but I suspect it will take all day to do so. There's no way I'll be able to put up with this self indulgent crap one sitting.

Are we expecting this big turnaround? It's one thing if the director's cut is based off a movie that was good or just okay to begin with like Blade Runner or Kingdom of Heaven, but when things like Alexander are recut 4 different times why am I supposed to be excited? What are we expecting?

The original cut isn't that offensive. I'm def gonna be watching it (prob over a few sittings no doubt) but it's still one of the weirdest things to come outta hbomax. No matter what they change or alter that shit isn't gonna be in sequels or anything. It's going to be self contained.
And I find it funny that all this shit comes out about whedon, but only on his wb sets or buffy bullshit. You're telling me he was the pinnacle of professionalism on avengers? Disney circling the wagons to make sure nobody talks shit about anything regarding the house of the mouse. I'm sure everyone only has a good time on all disney movie sets.

The Whedon Cut is okay. As for his behavior on set of the Avengers, keep in mind that Ike Perlmutter was very much in charge in those days and he’s supposedly a nightmare. Kevin Feige almost quit Marvel because of Perlmutter. So people may have shrugged off Joss Whedon as the lesser of two evils. I mean, it’s no secret that Quentin Tarantino is an asshole, but he was never Harvey Weinstein. Joss Whedon may have gotten a free pass on the Avengers. Either that or Robert Downey Jr kept him in check. Downey didn’t put up with any of David Fincher’s shit on the set of Zodiac. And that was pre-Iron Man. I can’t imagine Downey would have tolerated any nonsense after Iron Man. Point is, Joss Whedon was never in charge in either Avengers movie. He never had the control like he had on Buffy.

Might just be telling that the people he "bullied" were teenagers on a UPN show and the weird dude no one had heard of playing a robot character no one cares about. The Avengers was filled with real celebrities so there's a good chance he was on his best behavior.

I think it stands to reason some tempers flared on the Age of Ultron set. We all know that studio decisions on that film left him bitter. Whether it reached the cast...who knows?
The Whedon Cut of Justice League is like a serviceable empty shell of a movie, like a hollow chocolate Easter bunny. It's very much a superhero movie in the same vein of X-Men: The Last Stand where it's just flashy action with popular characters and almost no plot.
The movie we got wasn't a simple edit down. Over half the movie was reshot probably to make it less Batman v Superman and more Avengers. The Snyder Cut will likely have similar plot beats, but less restrained, for better or worse (arguably it could be both at the same time).
Whether one is anticipating it or not, this is more or less the same situation as Superman II, only this time it didn't take 25 years to try and make something coherent out of dumped footage. Curiosity about it is fully understandable, but I fully expect it to suck as much as a normal Zack Snyder movie.

There was tension on the set of Iron Man 2 as well, but Jon Favreau stuck around, while Joss Whedon joined the other side. Whedon is a petty man. I’d be too, but I’d take the James Gunn approach. You can do Guardians and Suicide Squad. ... yeah. The fact we're getting Knightmare and Darkseid, it means this is a significantly different movie. With Superman II, it was just a difference of tone.

I doubt their stories are gonna be adequately resolved in this new cut so it may well just be more loose ends that go nowhere. As long as Steppenwolf is the villain I can't imagine the movie being that good.

Also, let’s not forget this.

So is this an attempt to gain some steam for a sequel? Something Darkseid-centered? Or is all that scratched off the list now?

Ray Fisher is still going at it. www.comicbookmovie.com/justice_league/justice-league-ray-fisher-issues-statement-with-accusations-of-racism-and-reshoots-involving-cyborgs-penis-a182845#gs.v0b3zsI want to believe the guy, and it's definitely easy to believe he and Whedon had a bad relationship, but there are points where he just comes off like a raving madman with an "End is Nigh!" sign. Like this quote: Like...what exactly is he referring to? It's true that the only black people I recall being in the film are Fisher and the dude from T2, with the latter disappearing halfway through the movie, and that might be the result of what he's stating, but what roles were taken out or reduced in the film? And why are we certain this is racism and not just the studio being assholes and recutting the film to two hours at the last minute? Was there a black cop who was digitally erased during the Superman rampage scene because he was too black? What even is this? I might have to do a head count of black people in the Snyder Cut to see how kuch this complaint holds water, but from where I sit this one seems fishy. I won't call Fisher a liar, I just need more than this.
