The Joker always worked in the comics as someone who is broken down and turned to madness. I always saw the "The Batman Animated Series" in the 90's character this way.

It looks different. I'll take different any day over something like Suicide Squad 2. James Gunn is doing Suicide Squad 2. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s. Should we be sympathising with the joker? Discuss. You were on Thanos side and mofo wiped off half the universe. While I think he will do a great job as Joker, I'm not really fond of the makeup. And, um...so he goes nuts because he's been hit in the head too many times? Logical and interesting concept. They do say that damage to the frontal lobe of the brain causes a lack of impulse control, and that is seen in the history of many killers (a lot of the more devastating damage is done before the age of five though). I kind of miss the chemical bath story Read Alan Moore’s The Killing Joke. Anything beats Suicide Squad's Joker. The Killing Joke - I have 3 or 4 first printing copies. |

Liked it, thought teaser was better. I have faith in Joaquin, and the cinematography looks great, but the question that remains is Todd. This seemed to showcase a little more dialogue and story, so the jury is still out for me on this.
I've seen a lot of criticism for being a little too on the nose with it's King of Comedy/Scorsese influence, but they have been very upfront about that from the beginning, so whatever. My feeling is there are worse people to copy off of.

I would have hoped he meant that it's a great movie to see with a crowd, but this is his actual quote: "This is a truly nightmarish vision of late-era capitalism - arguably the best social horror film since Get Out - and Joaquin Phoenix is magnetic in it." Safe to assume he meant to say "social thriller", which a lot of people started throwing around more often with the release of Get Out, largely thanks to Jordan Peele labeling it as such. |
