WellNext I am listening to The Troop by Nick Cutter. This one is a horror story about five Boy Scouts and their Scoutmaster from Prince Edward Island. They are on an outing to Falstaff Island for a few days of wilderness camp when an ill man wanders onto the island from the water. The Scoutmaster (who is a doctor) takes the man in and tries to help him - but the radio gets destroyed and the troop becomes isolated until their boat home comes in two days - unfortunately, what the man had was highly contagious, and one by one the virus strives to spread and survive.

Just finished In Broad Daylight by Harry N. MacLean That one was about a town bully in North West Missouri who had everyone in fear for years - he was mean. He would point a gun at people or just stare at them and drive around tow in his pickup with his two women driving behind him and they would all have guns and threatened anyone who looked at them cross eyed. They started a big feud with some store owners over a piece of candy that their little daughter tried to take with out paying for it. The police were scared of him - the judge was scared of him - he was acquitted in court most of the time due to jury tampering he shot two people - nearly killed both and still didn't get locked up. The guy stole everything he could get from the farmers and sold it at auction.
So the town put their foot down and he was gunned down from behind while sitting in his truck in the middle of town. No one would say who shot him even though the guy's wife swore up and down she knew one of the three shooters - plain and simple he just needed killing. No one was ever arrested for the crime, they were all just glad he was gone. Really good True Crime book

Starting to read, In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts by Dr. Gabor Mate. No, this is not a horror novel, so to speak, but a really in depth and grounded in reality first person accounts of drug addiction. I find it a great read but will put this out there that there is a lot of profanity and some of the accounts are extremely depressing.
Also am getting into the concept of addiction coming from a human development issue.

If there is anyone interested in the Civil War era, specifically the assassination of Lincoln, You might be interested in Backstage at the Lincoln Assassination by Thomas A. Bogar
The book is a fascinating read about the event itself, and the chaos in Washington DC that followed. If you have read anything about this you probably have already learned about the main conspirators that met at Mary Suratt's house and earlier her tavern - you may have also read about the days that Booth was on the run and stopped at Doctor Mudd's house to get a leg fixed. This is about Ford's Theater, the actors, and the stage hands, and how they were treated in the days following. It also outlines the community and reaction of the public, as well as Sec. Stanton's handling of the situation, right on through the trial and years afterward and how it followed them for the rest of their lives.

Just finished 'Predatory Thinking' by Dave Trott. Very good read.
Now on to 'Why Does The World Exist?' by Jim Holt. Again, hugely enjoyable.

The Ghost Map: The Story of London's Most Terrifying Epidemic – and How it Changed Science, Cities and the Modern World by Steven Berlin Johnson It's a really shitty book...literally, it's about the sewer system and how it contributed to the worst outbreaks of Cholera - fascinating read

I took a break from "Swann's Way" by Proust. Every time he went off in a tangent I felt like I was going to have an aneurysm.
"Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostoyevsky - Quick update: This is surprisingly thrilling from a writer whose reputation has hinged on his deeply philosophical rants; e.g. The Brothers Karamazov.

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown I enjoyed it more than I thought I would - i.e. I found it easier to follow than I thought I would. There is one Really annoying character though - and she really irritated me although the book - Inoue Sato - I would have strangled her and got sent to prison or have been killed trying to kill her if I had been Langdon. What an annoying bitch.

I'm not knocking him or his fans.
BTW - I've been continuing with Saga, the graphic novel series. Have you read it yet Ramp? You might like it.

No offense taken - people read what they enjoy and avoid what they do not.
I haven't been exposed to it, no. It's been a long time since I have read graphic novels. I think it's also been a couple of years since I bought a comic book, and have been preparing to sell my collection
