I always confuse that with the Joel Schumacher movie.

Mike Leigh is one of my favorite filmmakers but his best works are behind him. They're also his (kitchen-sink drama) smaller movies.

Theeb conquers Venice Director Naji Abu Nowar's first-hand account of his award-winning debut at the Venice Film Festival. Thankfully, no one walked out. In fact, at the end they started applauding. We got up to acknowledge it and it grew louder and everyone rose up out of their seats and all turned in our direction. A standing ovation. They proceeded to applaud us for about 10 minutes, maybe more. It was the most incredible, surreal experience of my life – and certainly the best.

I've only seen one of his films, but I'll go ahead and agree with Sno. Check out Topsy-Turvy, Criterion has a beautiful DVD for it.

All I need it A Most Violent Year and my 2014 is complete. I want that to play near me, I'm very interested in it. Critics are comparing Chandor to Sidney Lumet, that's high praise.

They should have an American award show that's dedicated to the most uncomfortable viewing experiences of the year.

Well the Academy does need to spruce it up a bit, for example I hated that instead of showing clips of the film they elected to have other actors go on stage and gush about the nominees. "Oh DiCaprio, you're just grand!" Bleh. Movie highlights/clips/montages are awesome, especially with that orchestra score. Plus I'm sure they'll do something nice for Robin Williams, so people will be interested in that. I don't particularly enjoy the format of the show, and it takes forever to get to the good stuff, but I watch every year because I'm an insane movie person. Audiences shouldn't be scared off by not knowing what "Boyhood" and "Birdman" are, they should say "Hmmm, I should look into these films and see what the fuss is about!" But no, they just want MTV Movie Award bullshit Miley Cyrus dance numbers and categories like Best Kiss and Best Fight Scene (MTV is the worst). I say to hell with those people, but obviously the Academy wants their ratings.
Seriously though if I ever won an MTV Movie Award, firstly I'd hang my head in shame. Secondly, I'd blast them on stage and talk about what a bullshit sham the whole show is and slam my award on the ground and walk off throwing deuces. Yeah, that would be great.

Audiences shouldn't be scared off by not knowing what "Boyhood" and "Birdman" are. Let's go back to 2009. Or should I say 2010? Almost nobody watched The Hurt Locker. If I'm not mistaken, it's one of the lowest money-making Best Picture winners of all-time. Or at least that was the case back then. I'm sure, by now, most people haven seen it. But that wasn't the focus of that year's ceremony. Everyone was fixated on James Cameron vs his ex-wife. And the Oscars did not shy away from that. It took balls, and I mean REAL balls, to have James Cameron sit right behind Kathryn Bigelow. Can you imagine being nominated for an award against your ex-wife and then being forced to sit right behind her? Forget the MTV Movie Awards. This is when you would wanna hang yourself. The 2010 Oscars... that was great television. I think this year's Oscars also needs some drama. And it's not gonna be Boyhood vs Birdman. It's not gonna be Gone Girl vs Nightcrawler. If the Oscars use their brains. If the Oscars play this right. This year it would be GUARDIANS VS. INTERSELLAR. I can guarantee you - and I would be willing to put money into this - if the Academy Awards nominate Guardians of the Galaxy and Interstellar in every single technical category, even the "important" ones like cinematography and editing, the Internet will crash within minutes. It would completely re-write the awards season dialogue. Neil Patrick Harris would have to re-do his entire opening number. This whole Oscar season would start from scratch. Why? Because there's nothing that movie geeks love more than a good "pop culture vs art" debate. This would be our generation's "Star Wars vs Close Encounters" battle. In 1978, Star Wars was nominated for Best Picture. Steven Spielberg AND George Lucas were nominated for Best Director. Who won? Woody Allen for Annie Hall. This could be a repeat of that. Oscars, if you're out there lurking, you have one week to make this happen. Don't fuck it up.

Carell is nominated in the right category. Channing Tatum is the real lead of Foxcatcher.
Anyway, pretty good batch of nominees.

LOL! An error in the Golden Globes website may have accidentally revealed the winners. Apparently, "Selma" and "Into the Woods" will win Best Picture in the Drama and Comedy category. We'll know for sure on Sunday.

There's a supposed leak of winners for one show or another every year and it almost always turns out to be bullshit. Maybe it's real this time, but I doubt it.

I bet Dracula started laughing when Budapest won and then shut the fuck up when Theory won. Let's stop fighting, buddy. We both have things to hate.

I was rooting for Birdman in the comedy category and while I might have slightly preferred Carrell, I don't necessarily have anything against Theory as far as that performance is concerned, especially when it's not directly competing against Keaton. Also I didn't bother watching the ceremony, which probably says something about how much I care about the Golden Globes.

I've only ever watched the Academy Awards. The only exception was when I watched the MTV movie awards about 6 years ago. The horror.....the horror.......
