I’ll fact-check that later, but you might be right. That is correct, The Dark Knight didn't even get in. There have been previous nominees based on non-superhero comics like A History of Violence, American Splendor, and Ghost World Could have been worse, I had Bright predicted there. Some thoughts:
- Honestly quite happy to see Get Out get as much recognition as it did. The more that movie sits with me, the more I like and appreciate it. And it came out in February!
- On the other hand, quite surprised to see Phantom Thread rack up so much, especially given how little momentum it had from other awards groups going into this.
- Guess I shouldn't be all that surprised that Logan only got a Screenplay nod, but still, I'll take it over nothing.
- Happy to see Nolan FINALLY get a Directing nod, even though he won't win.
- After seeing The Big Sick a couple weeks ago, kind of disappointed to not see it represented more.
- Clearly, the recent Franco allegations hurt The Disaster Artist, which is too bad for the film itself.
- At this point, Meryl Streep can just sneeze and get an Oscar nomination. Not that her performance or The Post are bad, but it is this year's Bridge of Spies.
- I guess Denzel Washington got James Franco's slot.
