Apparently in the "in memoriam" they paid tribute to someone who was still alive lmao. Used the wrong picture or something

The real moral is... give short speeches. If they had said thank you and gotten the fuck off the stage, the show would have ended and THAT would have been hilarious. Can you imagine the Oscars having to issue a press conference and say, "sorry guys, we fucked up." They gave TWO speeches before the mistake was corrected. Two. If they had given one short speech, we would have all gone to bed thinking La La Land won Best Picture. Jibbs would had to re-tally the pool. Some poor bastard would have been crowned Oscar pool champion and then stripped off his title in the morning. daniel is our Moonlight .

This year's ceremony was the most entertaining in a while. I've been watching the Oscars since the 90's and this might be the best one. Jimmy Kimmel was great. The fuck up at the end was legendary. Only comparable thing I can think of is Roberto Benigni going batshit crazy when he won two Oscars for Life is Beautiful. But Whoopi hosted that year and I thought she was a major downgrade from Billy Crystal.

You guys are crazy. Aside from Beatty this was the worst Oscars I can remember. Boring, boring, boring as shit, terrible and almost nonsensical speeches, nothing else really going on. Kimmel was actually pretty good all things considered.

Viola gave maybe the most condescending speech I've ever heard. I would expect some in the media to tear it up tomorrow. I completely agree, her speech was pathetic. "Our profession is the only one that celebrates what it means to live a life." Holy shit she needs a reality check. We work in the ENTERTAINMENT business. I'm not saying that the industry we're in doesn't help people or raise awareness to issues, but that statement is absolute blasphemy. It's an insult to the great work so many people and organizations dedicate their lives to. Her blubbering was painful to watch. So full of herself to the point of being disgusting. The funny thing is she did not deserve the award, Naoime Harris did. Has this speech been getting ripped to shreds or is she getting a pass because she's a black woman? A quick glance shows a lot of praise but no one calling her out for it. Pathetic. I'm at work but I'll post more of my Oscar thoughts later tonight.

And I wanted to reach through the screen and grab her and everyone there and say 'THIS is why people hate you, THIS is why people don't care about you and what you have to say.' The Oscars had a lot of predictable political digs like it always does so I'll put one in for good measure; speeches and attitudes like this are again a reason why Trump won. People all over the country and the world watched an awards ceremony celebrating generally liberal people working in a very liberal industry and have her tell them 'hey I'm a movie star, I have the most important job, the 'only job that celebrates what it means to live a life.' So much for the doctors, teachers, nurses, stay at home moms and all those other worthless and forgettable jobs. Too bad you aren't Viola Davis.' Fuck you Viola.
Granted maybe what she meant to say is way, way different than how it came off but she should have chosen those words more wisely.

I completely agree. Even aside from that part of her rhetoric, she was bombastically over the top. Blubbering, taking forever and ever to ramble about nothings. It was embarrassing. YOU'RE AN ACTRESS! I work in the industry because I love film, and again I don't deny that the industry has massive influence on raising social awareness. But come on, the work we do isn't nearly as important as so many other professions out there. What she said is bullshit and she should absolutely be condemned for it. Will she? Nope, The Huffington Post is already regarding the speech as "an instant classic." I'm liberal, but I agree that this kind of shit is why people got sick of the smug liberal elites thus paving the way for Trump. She was beyond full of herself.

I think you guys need to take a couple of chill pills. There are plenty of people in the world saying plenty of things that are far more worth getting worked up about than a self-congratulatory speech at an award show.

I agree it's really not a big deal in the long run but it's a clear example of what people hate about award shows, celebrities and Hollywood. And it was watched by millions and millions of people around the world.

Nah, she was a blubbering disaster. Made a total fool of herself. And again.... she should not have won in the first place. She's in a profession, where she takes her career very seriously? That's how it should be though.... If you have passion in your profession than saying what she said, gives her full respect. Shes not doing it for fame, or money unlike Adam Sandler and people in reality tv like Kardasians who wouldn't dare do these things if it wasn't for there pride and ego being amped up to 100.

I'm not saying she shouldn't be passionate about her profession, of course she should be. But let's not confuse passion for self serving bullshit like what she did last night. Her comment was a foolish one and borderline offensive towards people in other professions who certainly do value lives and have a far greater direct impact on it than she, an actress, does. It is what it is. I've said my piece, I think Viola Davis is delusional and smug, and I don't care for her speech at all.
Actors can accept awards gracefully, we've seen it done several times a whole lot better than that.

I don't know if anyone brought this up yet, but here's the inadvertent genius of last night: The Oscars managed to recreate the ending of La La Land in their own way.

I already said that, Phantom Knight. Don't try to Carlos Mencia me, man.
jk
I finally am sitting down to watch the whole ceremony. I am loving it. No problems with any of the speeches.
Maybe I'm just bitter because John Chode was there. Fuck that guy.
I loved the tour bus portion.
I think the biggest misstep was John Legend singing the songs from La La Land. Whatever the reason he did it, and Ryan and Emma chose not to, those songs lost a lot of their emotional punch when sang by him.

I enjoyed the show this year. Jimmy Kimmel was really good and I liked the Matt Damon fued he had going on.
I don't listen to the speeches so I guess I missed Viola Davis' and thus have no comment.

White Guilt Liberals need to stop pretending they watched Moonlight. It grossed $22 million. It's the 2nd lowest grossing Best Picture winner of all-time. Ya'll didn't watch the movie. Shut the fuck up. This is why Trump got elected. Stop politicizing everything. Yes, it's a breakthrough that a Black movie that didn't revolve around slavery won Best Picture. That should be celebrated. But you can't blind praise the movie either or get upset when someone who did watch the movie says it's not that great. We can talk shit about Crash or 12 Years a Slave cause those movies weren't starving for an audience. The backlash didn't create any real harm. Moonlight is a small movie most people haven't seen. If you start creating animosity, guess what, people won't see it. If people feel like they HAVE to like a movie, they rather not deal with the pressure of it, and the movie gets lost in the crowd. That's why, at the annoyance of Dracula and PG Cooper , I'll go to bat for a genre film instead of a prestige one. Get Out, the brilliant movie ya'll are ignoring and will eventually hate on, will ultimately do more good than Moonlight. You gotta throw some entertainment in there to ease the tension. Moonlight will always be perceived as a Black movie and I don't think that's what the filmmakers intended. They just wanted to tell a story based on their life. Not everyone is a white person in the suburbs. Not every story is gonna reflect that and it shouldn't. Moonlight is a movie. The end. But if people continue with the Black vs White narrative, it'll never be allowed to be one and its Best Picture victory will mean nothing. It'll always be the Black movie that stole the spotlight from La La Land.

Yeah, Kimmel's happy ending joke was awesome and no one laughed, showing as he said that no one saw Moonlight. Some of my takeaways... Very happy Kenneth Lonergan won for Best Original Screenplay. He wrote a fantastic film and certainly deserved to win. Emma Stone for Best Actress. Kind of surprising to be honest. Her and Gosling's performances in La La Land are good but to be honest nothing overly special. The other nominees weren't slam dunks either though, so whatever. Naomie Harris should've won Best Supporting Actress. She was excellent in Moonlight. Best Director I'm fine with. Barry Jenkins or Lonergan would've been fine with me too. The Academy probably saw a chance to make Chazelle the youngest director to win the award and took it. Nah, he also directed a helluva technical showcase. Neverending wanted Mel to win, but the Jews just let him back into Hollywood, they aren't gonna give him anything more than that... for now. Best Actor, no duh. Despite that awkwardly awful acceptance speech by Affleck, he was terrific in Manchester by the Sea. Arrival got an Oscar! Good! Kimmel ripping on We Bought a Zoo was amazing. I totally forgot about that movie, why was it even made? Not even Neverending watched it. Overall a decent Oscars. Not as many odes to past films as we usually get, though I suppose the sort of tribute to Back to the Future was cool (but it's 2017... it's not a 30 year anniversary for the film...). I just enjoy them showing clips of films. I wanted more of that, especially in regards to classic films and actors. Was pretty meager overall, but then again it's about the films of 2016.

SnoBorderZeroIt's no secret that male Academy members vote for the Best Actress nominee they wanna have sex with. Hence... Marion Cotillard and Jennifer Lawrence and so on and so forth.
