This keeps getting better.
The official reason for the Best Picture blunder was an accountant's boner for Emma Stone. The guy they're blaming this on, Brian Cullinan, was so distracted taking photos of Emma Stone backstage that he accidentally gave Warren Beatty the wrong envelope.

I am firmly of the belief that technicians should not be punished for doing stellar work in movies that might not otherwise be Oscar-worthy. Even with Norbit, if the makeup was Oscarworthy then it deserved that nomination.

I agree with that too, we're recognizing that aspect of the film, not the script, or directing, etc. It's still just funny that Suicide Squad is an Oscar winner. Even if it's for a technical category, that's still a hard statement to accept.
