The one that really got to me was Oliver! I could not STAND that garbage. It's probably my #1 on least favorite BP winners.

You guys need to hate on Gigi more, I fucking hated that movie. I don't remember much about it except that it was horrendous. That's in my bottom 5 for sure.

I watched it 8 years ago when I was rounding out BP winners, I remember next to nothing about it. In fact that might be the one I remember the least, I couldn't even tell you what it's about. I remember seeing it at Costco for $5 and going 'nah.'

You guys need to hate on Gigi more, I fucking hated that movie. I don't remember much about it except that it was horrendous. That's in my bottom 5 for sure. It's my number 6 worst. What give Going My Way the edge (in terms of terribleness) is that the number "I Remember It Well" from Gigi is somewhat memorable, whereas all I remember from Going My Way is mass boredom and annoyance about the film making the priest super hip and cool with the kids. Both terrible. Thinking on it though, Gigi might be worse. The film does have an old man in a park singing "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" which, in the context of the film, seems to imply that little girls eventually grow into hot young women. Needless to say, that's fucking creepy. As for Oliver!, to be honest, I didn't hate it. I heard so much negativity about the film that when I finally saw it I didn't think it was that bad. Don't get me wrong, I still found it bad, and the fact that it was the 1968 film the Academy chose to honour is laughable, but the production value is pretty high and while the film is bloated with musical numbers, at least the numbers themselves are mostly well-choreographed. Would still probably be in my bottom ten.

Yeah, that's basically what I recall from Gigi too, is that it was a bit creepy and nothing more than a melodramatic costume drama typical of 50s Hollywood. I don't want to ever watch it again.
I don't hate Oliver! either, but it's nothing special. I'm not going to defend it, but there's much worse Oscar winners besides the ones Cooper already mentioned like Around the World in 80 Days and Cavalcade and Crash.

La La Land survived Venice AND Telluride. We have our first serious contender for Best Picture, which is REALLY gonna piss off Dracula . This is no Whiplash. Emma Stone plays a barista and Ryan Gosling plays a jazz musician and there's a lot of singing and dancing. Think of The Artist but with sound and color and Americans and early-to-mid 20th century musicals.

Although Doomsday talked mad shit about it, Hacksaw Ridge got a 10-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival. Will that translate to Oscar gold? Probably not. But it's still worth noting.

What I saw wasn't the final cut, there was still work to be done FX wise and it's possible they recut some things, hopefully the ending which needs it. What they probably didn't change was how weak Andrew Garfield was throughout most of the movie and how cliche it is.

Interesting, I have not at all been paying attention to what is coming out. None of those sound too interesting to me though, based on your sarcastic one sentence descriptions anyway.

What if the descriptions were: Arrival - Denis Villeneuve science fiction movie with Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Forrest Whitiker Barry - Movie about Obama's college years Jackie - Jackie Kennedy biopic starring Natalie Portman (that's pretty accurate) La La Land - Screen musical/romance with Ryan Gostling and Emma Stone Moonlight - Movie about gay black kids in 80s Florida based on a well respected play Nocturnal Animals - Amy Adams/Jake Gyllenhaal movie from director Tom Ford about a woman whose ex-husband writes a novel she views as a veiled threat.

So what's winning Best Picture? Barry, Birth of a Nation or Moonlight? I'm still rooting for Southside with You.
