I haven't even heard of those movies. Tangerine is supposed to be good. That's the movie shot on the iPhone. It's not gonna get any Oscar nominations. Hollywood isn't gonna support a movie made on the iPhone.

Carol is that lesbian movie. Spotlight is that pedophile movie. The rest... I don't know. Tangerine is the transsexual prostitute movie and Diary of Teenage Girl is about a teenager fucking her step dad. Not sure about heaven knows what.

Ricky Gervais is hosting the Golden Globes.
So... Chris Rock is hosting the Oscars and Ricky Gervais is hosting the Golden Globes.
This... will be fun.

Yeah, I mean people get all up in arms that Annie Hall won over it, but Annie Hall is a great movie in it's own right. Star Wars great? No, but the real travesty is in 1980 with Ordinary People winning over Empire Strikes Back, The Elephant Man, and namely Raging Bull.

It's odd that Jaws was nominated for Best Picture, but Steven Spielberg wasn't nominated for Best Director. And then 2 years later, Steven Spielberg was nominated for Best Director, but Close Encounters wasn't nominated for Best Picture. The Oscars really hate Steven Spielberg.

Yeah, and not winning Best Picture for Saving Private Ryan in favor of *gulp* Shakespeare in Love. You're right, they do.

Yeah, and not winning Best Picture for Saving Private Ryan in favor of *gulp* Shakespeare in Love. You're right, they do. They play mind games with him. They nominated The Color Purple for, like, 11 Oscars but he didn't get nominated for Best Director. How does that happen? And now they're fucking with Christopher Nolan.

Christopher Nolan has been nominated for and has won exactly as many Academy Awards as he deserved.

Dracula PG Cooper SnoBorderZeroThe Golden Globes put The Martian in the comedy/musical category. Doesn't that pretty much guarantee a Best Picture nomination and a possible Best Actor win for Matt Damon? I don't know what that'll mean for the Oscars, it might not mean anything at all, but it's certainly interesting. Worst case scenario, this could be the most awards love The Martian gets.

As a consumer I would certainly rather not have all the good movies log jammed into the last three months of the year, but I also think they do it for a reason and that more often than not it works for them.
