I watched at first because I thought the story of Alan Turing had potential. My expectations were still set at Oscar-bait, but the real life story seemed more thematic and interesting.

I feel like WWII movies have run their course. These recent movies are bottom-of-the-barrel storytelling. Stephen Hawkins is common Oscar-bait too in the sense that it's a disability story, but those are more tolerable than WWII movies. The disability story is a more contemporary type of Oscar-bait. It hasn't out-played itself yet.

The Theory of Everything is probably a more obvious piece of Oscar bait than The Imitation Game. Yeah, I'm more seeing it just to cross it off. You two and Doomsday are weird. There's nothing more Oscar-bait than a Harvey Weinstein movie, especially one that takes place during World War II. I think you guys and Dracula only watched Imitation Game first because you assumed it would be the frontrunner at the Oscars. I saw The Theory of Everything last month. Just to rip the Band-Aid off early.

They're both Oscar bait, movies I would never have bothered to see otherwise.

I saw Theory of Everything almost two months before Imitation Game, I slightly prefer it and view it as the less cynical of the two.

Theory of Everything looked more biopic like to me, which is why I saw Imitation Game instead.

He's not entirely wrong, though Guardians, despite its popularity, is still the weakest superhero film of the year. If the Academy owed more nominations to any comic book adaptation from 2014, it's X-Men.

I think Guardians deserved more nominations. Visual Effects and Make-Up is only a fraction of what Guardians did right. Costumes. Sets. Sound Design. Guadians should have been nominated in those categories as well. 6 nominations is what Guardians should have gotten. 2 feels like an insult.

X-Men also got costumes and sets right. And the sound design seemed pretty good too (though I'm not the best at determining such things).

X-Men also got costumes and sets right. No. X-Men got ONE nomination. That's it. Just visual effects. For X-Men?

I got so teary-eyed at that movie, so many unforgettable moments. Like when Jamie Foxx electrocuted people in Times Square. Or when Spider-Man made a massive web of his love for Gwen, which probably took a lot of time when he could've just told her or... you know, been fighting crime. Or when we got to see the Green Goblin for the 3rd time in 5 movies. Ah, what a film.

I meant it should have been nominated in those categories. I know it wasn't. Maybe. Snowpiercer is the movie that got fucked royally. I'm still shocked it didn't AT LEAST get nominated for Make-Up. Did the Oscar not realize that was Tilda Swinton as the old lady? And for the record, Tilda Swinton should have been nominated. That is a snub that nobody is bitching about.

I know it was released here last year, but it's a 2013 movie so maybe that's why it didn't garner much attention. Which is a shame because it's a creative and highly enjoyable viewing.

It's overrated as a story, but the acting and the filmmaking are exceptional. 10 years from now, people are gonna look back at this years Oscars and think, "how come Snowpiercer wasn't nominated?"

The story has some silly logic, but I can almost always ignore minor details when the movie is executed well, and "Snowpiercer" fits that description. Good performances, bleak and unique take on the postapocalyptic theme, some pretty badass action sequences, yeah it's definitely a solid film. Hell, what about art direction? The train was really neat, and despite some low-budget special effects, looked really good and the different compartments were interesting.

Definitely. Snowpiercer should have gotten a handful of nominations. But... what can I say? The Oscars are shit.
