They're bringing back Roseanne

Ugh. Gross. My city always finds a way to disappoint. But people do love roseanne here.

Didn't and prob won't watch it. Was never a huge fan of the original.

They try to work in too many jokes but on the whole I enjoyed the third episode, it made me laugh quite a few times.

Last night's episode was the weakest so far. Hopefully this isn't the beginning of a downward trend.

Great episode but I'm sure Doomsday will find reasons to hate it.

Dan's "That's when you can see your children" interactions with David was so much of the way my dad handle's my sister's ex.

Doomsday

Got to season 2 , which I'll call the Joss Whedon season. The man is responsible for making Jackie a cop. The man was always a feminist. This is also the season where Tom Arnold joined the writing staff and was cast as one of Dan's pals. I remember hearing John Goodman fucking HATED Tom Arnold. Season 2 must have been a nightmare behind the scenes. By all accounts, Roseanne, in general, was an awful show to work at. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say a good thing about working at that show.

Doomsday

The Muslim neighbor episode is good. People talked shit without having even seen it.

Anyway... finished season 3. The first of the Chuck Lorre seasons. It was... kinda shitty. Becky was annoying. Mark is stupid. Dan's father married Roseanne's best friend and they had a baby. Jackie left the police force and turned into a dyke. Why must you shit on Joss Whedon, Chuck Lorre? The silver lining were Martin Mull as Roseanne's gay boss at the mall food court... and the BBQ episode with Shelley Winters.

Started season 4. It's another Chuck Lorre season but it's actually really good so far. Martin Mull joined the writing staff. More shenanigans at the food court. Dan opened a bike shop. Becky's fucking Mark. Darlene turned emo. But Jackie still looks like a dyke, Becky has a stupid haircut and they should have fired whoever was in charge of wardrobe in seasons 3 & 4.

Ready for the season finale? Roseanne's addicted to pain medicine!!!!!

Meanwhile, in typical Roseanne fashion, they're shaking up the writer's room for next season. Whitney Cummings is out as showrunner.

Anyway... finished season 4, started season 5 which has Bruce Helford, Bruce Rasmussen and Norm MacDonald behind the scenes. All three are part of the revival, and like the revival, this is when the show "gets serious." I'm halfway through the season and so far they've tackled the recession and several themes of abuse. Roseanne got attacked. David got slapped across the face by his mom. Jackie got beat up by her boyfriend. Dan then beats up the boyfriend and goes to jail. Heavy stuff, Doomsday. Meanwhile, on tonight's Full House, Stephanie gets offered a cigarette by her rebellious new best friend in the girl's restroom.



Speaking of which... this is also the season where Danielle Harris moves in next door and befriends Darlene & David. In one episode, Danielle Harris and Darlene go to a Daisy Chainsaw concert and Danielle Harris abandons Darlene in the parking lot to go fuck two guys in a van. I'm not making that shit. That's a real episode of Roseanne. Meanwhile, on tomorrow's Saved by the Bell, Punky Brewster starts dating Screech so she could steal his family's spaghetti sauce recipe.



Overall, season 5 is great, my favorite so far. They got rid of Becky & Mark. They got married and ran off to Minnesota, probably to give birth to Dracula. Becky & Mark are godawful characters. I'm glad even the writers fucking hated them. Those last batch of season 4 episodes with Dan losing the bike shop and Becky being a **** were painful to watch. Season 5 gives us Darlene & David, who are a gazillion times better, and Danielle Harris is a nice addition. Roseanne lost gay boss Martin Mull and the mall food court and replaced it with the sandwich diner, the Landford Lunchbox, and lesbian Sandra Bernhard. I prefer Martin Mull but I don't mind Sandra Bernhard and the Lunchbox is better than the mall food court and the bike shop. They also bring in Roseanne's mom as a recurring character. She's the one who invested $30,000 into the Lunchbox so Roseanne & Jackie had a place to work during the recession. Jackie is also less of a dyke this season. Season 4 had her working as a trucker. Now she's in the Lunchbox with Roseanne and Sandra Bernhard and dating guys half her age. She's cougar Jackie now. It's a shame what they did to the Joss Whedon version of the character, Cop Jackie, but Laurie Metcalf did win an Emmy for this season, so I guess people weren't complaining.

And Gia was a total bitch in Full House. I remember the episode where she spreads a rumor that Stephanie paid a guy she had a crush on to go on a date with him so in retaliation Stephanie illegally stole her report card, blew it up and hung it in the school hallway. Fucking savage! Of course they become friends at the end though because it's Full House. I think at the end of that episode there's some kids night at the Smash Club? Uncle Jesse was the worst businessman of all time.

Doomsday talkin' shit but they addressed "the illegals" in the finale. Good episode. Good season. Looking forward to more.

Finished season 5, almost done with season 6. Martin Mull returns, goes to work at the Lunchbox. Sarah Chalke (Scrubs) debuts at Becky 2. An... improvement... maybe? Mark & David are actually a good duo. I think the actor playing Mark just didn't have any chemistry with either Becky's, not to mention the writing was just awful for Mark & Becky. This is the season they actually give DJ stuff to do. And now Jackie got knocked up by one of Dan's co-workers. Oh, that wacky Jackie.

Looks like thay're canceling this shit after Rosanne made a "joke" comparing a black woman to an ape on twitter. Kind of surprised it took this long. Hopefully networks will think twice before hiring people like this.

The "everyone else" is probably relieved that they don't need to find some way out of their contract. John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf don't need to deal with that shit.
