All theaters hire more for the holidays, and more for big movies. New people get shit hours afterwards as a result, but virtually no one gets overtime since they tend to always over-hire for big movies. Doubles are very rare, unless a bunch of people call in sick and someone gets asked to stay.

Doubles are very rare, unless a bunch of people call in sick and someone gets asked to stay. That sort-of feels wrong to me. Long-time employees should get the option for overtime. Star Wars opens on December 17, if you count the Thursday premiere. From December 20 to 26, you could work 10 hour days, minus Christmas Eve and Christmas, and do over 50 hours. They can call the overtime a holiday bonus if they want and write it off for taxes or whatever.

You're talking about a company that pays scraps to its employees to begin with, and then took away the one perk they had in the job: to see a free movie.
They do at least pay time-and-a-half on some of the holiday hours.

A Person would be mad too see this opening day or The Christmas holiday. In my view the perfect time too see this is the noon showing on dec 20th a sunday. If you hate the mad rush and kids its the best time too go. Noon and sunday is when i go for any opening movie. Unless i am just bored christmas day evening.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens already made $50 million in advance ticket sales.

"Oh good, we'll be protected by laser blasts, now." "Well..." "Not against lasers?! Very well, at least with armor it should help against blunt force trauma, or at least rocks and sticks being thrown at us by teddy bears." "Weeeeeeelll......."

Called me old fashioned but looking at that reminds me of the thousands of yards worth of chainmail that Weta made for LOTR. I remember watching the extras on the LOTR extended edition DVDs and there were literally a handful of designers who spent years linking chainmail together for armour for the multiple armies that featured in LOTR.
That was dedication, man. And that's what they abandoned without a second thought for the money-spinning Hobbit trilogy.

George Lucas was still lazier with not making clone trooper suits. That CGI troopers with superimposed heads was somehow thought to be a good idea is kinda whacky. You know, rather than just simply putting the actor in a suit while doing his lines, that they ended up recording his talking head doing anyway.

The prequel trilogy was the epitome of lazy filmmaking.

The Force Awakens got a PG-13. It's the 2nd Star Wars movie to get that rating.

Let's reserve this thread strictly for 'Non-special edition OT release on blu-ray' news.
Whenever that is.
Maybe never.

Fanible , let's compare and contrast. AMC has announced that they've already pre-sold tickets to 1,600 auditoriums. And they still have 3.5 million tickets left. How are the numbers in your theater chain? Assuming you're part of a chain?
