The Exorcist is now a TV series on Fox Angela Rance believes something is very wrong in her home. Plagued by increasingly frightening nightmares, she isn't the only one in her family suffering: her husband Henry is slowly losing his mind, while their older daughter spends all of her time locked in her room and the younger one believes she hears strange noises coming from inside the walls. Desperate, she turns to Father Tomas Ortega -- the progressive leader of their suburban Chicago parish -- setting him on a collision course with old school Vatican soldier Father Marcus Brennan, as all their fates become entangled in a battle against an ancient force of evil. Network: FOX
I thought the first episode was very well done. It has good production values and the acting is right up there with interesting characters. It starts with a very slow burn - Ortega is having very vivid dreams of an exorcism of a small child in Mexico. The priest in the dream is going against his superiors to continue to try to save the boy. Meanwhile, Angela Rance (Geena Davis) is worried about her daughter who has been spending all of her time in her room. Rance hears strange noises from the walls, and meanwhile, her husband has suffered some sort of trauma that has left him rather odd and forgetful. Angela asks Father Ortega to come to dinner and witness what is happening in her home... what he finds scares the hell out of him and the quest is on... I liked the fact that they didn't make this the freak of the week, it is an ongoing story that will keep me watching for a while

I just watched the first episode on Hulu. It's not bad. I find Angela's line of thinking a bit strange because she immediately concludes that there's a demon in her house, but logic and Catholicism don't necessarily go hand-in-hand so I'm willing to forgive it.

Well she's very religious and she was definitely hearing weird noises from the walls. Plus her daughter was acting out of character.

Yeah Mrs McNeil was at least an agnostic and didn't follow any religion or introduce Reagan to any following, while Mrs Rance is already religious.
So, there are a lot of people affected by the demon(s) in that area. Interesting twist, I see how they plan to keep things going there.
The manifestation of centipedes was creepy but a bit too much this early I think. I know manifestations of bees or flies are telltale signs of some evil presence so I guess its fitting.

I'm reminded of the church desecrations from the novel. I wonder if someone is summoning demons in the city because of the pope's arrival.
I like the little nods to the movie in the show. Tubular bells at the end of episode one was nice, and once I saw dinner in this episode I knew what was coming.
So far I'm liking the show. It's creepy, and the makeup effects of the possessed aren't as scary looking as Linda Blair in the movie, so I can actually watch the show without needing to cover my eyes.

The body part brigade, and now we see that this is a different demon but it knows what the other demon did in Mexico... they're all working together! Like he said , that was more than enough body parts to summon just one demon.

It was even better the second time I saw it, because my TV here is too small for me to read all the subtitles plus the distractions here in rehab make me miss lines.
I watched it again on Hulu when it was quiet and things made much more sense and ran more smoothly.
I see a lot of people complain on IMDb about the pacing of the story, but I think it is fine. They sound like younger viewers who may be more used to slasher flicks.

Oh man, I usually save this for Monday mornings, but I'm going to have to watch the newest episode this afternoon. Sounds like things are getting even more interesting. I'll check back in a few hours once I'm all caught up.

So after getting caught up on Hulu so I can watch it with seakazoo, wow. I did a slow clap after the big reveal and it definitely made me enjoy the show more. The pacing, to me, is done very well and the writers are doing a great job.

The most complaints I read about the show is the slow pacing and that a lot of people are bored.
They're too used to slasher flicks and don't get that this is more slow burn psychological Gothic stuff

Snap, indeed.
I'm ready to see what the last two episodes of the season have in store for us. Also curious whether or not the show gets renewed.
We don't get a new episode this week. Hopefully December 2nd gets here soon.

Way better season than it had any right to be.
But where do you go from here?

I can't wait to see. I was really impressed with the show and hope to see more of Thomas and Marcus in Chicago.
