Someone fixed the trailer

The trailer on YouTube had 139K likes. Dislikes? 263K.

All the outrage in the build-up would have evaporated had they released a trailer that was actually funny.

They didn't. They got a smidgeon of a smirk from me during the "Let's go" part.

You'd think they'd want to show some of the funniest bits so as to quell the detractors ASAP. If what I just watched was some of the best bits, they're in big trouble.

Yeah, but honestly Deexan, most of the detractors are the people like us on the internet.  In the big scheme of things, all the internet whiners aren't that big a deal.   From what I can tell the general public is either neutral towards this or interested.

The general public will watch it, but it won't be a huge hit like the original.

Normally I'd agree, that we can often be in the minority when it comes to being overly critical about movies ahead of time. Evidence as such can typically be referenced to movies that, despite looking terrible, still have 90% upvotes on their trailer releases (which happens more often than not). This may even include those that just simply don't care enough to downvote something, which results in mostly upvotes. However, that's not the case with this movie, which is kind of a big deal. It has more downvotes than upvotes on the trailer by quite a bit. On both the Ellen release and the one on the Sony YouTube page. I've actually been quite surprised with the amount of displeasure the trailer has received outside of just movie fanatics.

Some people (probably hired by Sony to do damage control) are trying their hardest to right the ship to the point where it sounds contrarian.

In retrospect... that's kind of stupid. No offense to Leslie Jones. She paid her dues - she's been a stand-up for 20 or 30 years - but she doesn't mix well with the other castmembers. Why couldn't they have just made Hemsworth the 4th Ghostbuster and have avoided all the negative press? Three women and Hemsworth is fine. I think people would have accepted that. And if they REALLY needed a Black woman, they shouldn't have cast Melissa McCarthy. Paul Feig, come on, even Tim Burton stopped working with Johnny Depp. Even Martin Scorsese takes the occasional break from Leonardo DiCaprio. A Black, and FUNNIER, woman in the lead plus Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth would have been a much better - and less controversial - cast. Or not.

I'm fascinated by this movie to tell you the truth. I can't remember the last time a movie was so polarizing. Not only that but it seems like a vast majority of the general public (or at least people who use the internet) are against this movie or find it to be unnecessary/unfunny while at the same time entertainment websites are pushing it with all their might. I've seen several websites touting it as 'the MUST SEE movie of the summer,' 'the funniest trailer you've ever seen!' etc. etc. The trailer is dogshit, everybody knows it's dogshit, and I think most people are done with reading 'oh you must be sexist' if they don't like it. On top of that we have a new all-female Ocean's 11 movie that we're 'supposed' to look forward to.

Frankly whether people realize it or not, I think everyone is tired of being insulted. Just because they take a property, swap women for men and give us a mediocre trailer shouldn't make us want to see it and it certainly doesn't make people sexist.

Alright, alright, stop hounding me. I'll watch the trailer.
